New York State Running Out Of Money

New York State's dire budget situation gets the front page treatment from the NY Times today. And the Times sounds the alarm bells and points a finger in the direction of a certain state body:
"Without a budget deal, New York will be left with just $36 million in the bank by the end of December, according to current projections. And the money will last that long, officials say, only if the state chooses to fully exhaust its emergency reserves by tapping several billion dollars’ worth of temporary loans from its rainy-day fund and short-term investments.

For weeks, Gov. David A. Paterson has invoked the shrinking amount of available cash in an effort to provoke the Legislature to deal with the state’s $3.2 billion budget deficit. So far, the specter of such dire fiscal outcomes has been greeted with what amount to legislative shrugs, chiefly in the recalcitrant State Senate."

The Times also points out, "The Paterson administration argues that the state must begin to reckon with severe future deficits, and this view appears to have the support of Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver. Senators prefer to take temporary measures and push off the day of reckoning as long as possible."

Paterson has proposed $3 billion in cuts, with much of them focused on education and Medicaid, cuts that the State Senate opposes. Yesterday, the Daily News notes how Paterson remained firm on needing to cut the budget, saying, "Some of them have said they don't want me to do their job. Neither do I. Then do your job yourself and let's not give me phony remedies." However, State Senator Ruben Diaz Sr. said, "I am not voting for it no matter how much he yells. He knows that we are not going to support his cuts. So he is trying to act like a macho man."

Ruben Diaz needs to put away his Village People records.

MMMMIIIIISSSSSTTTTEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR Diazzzz... if this is too cold to hold and too hot to handle... if you're not down with it... Well, we got two words for ya ..."

I'd call Senator Diaz retarded, but I'd only be insulting the retards.

New York State is running out of money because New York taxpayers are running out of New York:

Ruben Diaz is to unashamed ignorance what Pedro Espada is to unashamed corruption.

WHY ARE WE STILL DISCUSSING IF THE EARTH IS FLAT OR NOT?

The entire media knows Bloomberg, Giuliani, and Pataki bankrupted NY but kept it SECRET b/c these 3 criminals gave them over $3 billion in "Corporate Welfare" (not including the $200 million Mike gave them in his OWN money, to buy their false accolades).

Paterson will NOT give the media moguls YOUR money and the result is they've pounded him for minor sins that Rudy, George, and Tax Hike Mike outdid their first week in office!

Look at the VVoice each week. Their "CHOICES" section now includes recommendations for MSG, Citi Field, and the Meadowlands almost every week now, unlike anytime previously.

It's called "PAY-TO-PLAY" and as long as the sheep sit quietly, things can only get more fraudulent and more precarious.

Bad politicians are a SYMPTOM of the problem.

The PROBLEM is a media that deceives the populace, and a populace that likes to be deceived.

You ain't seen nothing yet, suckers.

Just as I warned you for 20 YEARS that the MTA was wasting tens of billions of your dollars and y'all called me "crazy" (including Gothamist)----and now their debt service is 20% of their annual budget and growing----NYC and NY are past the point of no return.

ALL they can do is keep cutting services and keep raising taxes.

Gothamist refused to even DISCUSS any of this when I was on the Dem ballot in 2005----the entire media had a blacklist on me b/c I was the only candidate discussing serious issues and solutions----AND NOW Y'ALL ARE COMPLAINING THAT THE CITY AND STATE ARE FUCKED????

YOU GOT WHAT YOU ASKED FOR.

[author sits back and laughs as your bills and taxes skyrocket]

if you make your own blog, will you count as a part of "the entire media?"

I'M ASKING FOR YOU TO MAKE A WEBSITE!!!!!!!

[sits back and farts]

It's all a secret conspiracy to make you take your meds.

I understand what you mean about Bloomberg giving the media $200 million (via campaign advertising) but under what guise did the government give the media $3 billion? And what did it get them? Giuliani and Pataki were never particularly loved by the media

When are the politicians and voters going to wake up and realize that you can't tax people to death, and spend like there's no tomorrow? We need some true fiscal conservatives to get elected on every level. We need less government, not more.
