GMA: Adam Lambert, No; Chris Brown, Yes

2009_11_cbrown.jpg After Adam Lambert's racy, same-sex kiss-and-simulated blow job performance on the American Music Awards, Good Morning America cancelled the singer's performance on the morning show. But now it turns out that GMA is welcoming admitted, convicted girlfriend-beater Chris Brown to the program next week.

According to Radar, "Brown will be appearing on GMA in early December. He's doing a pre-taped "tell all" with co-anchor Robin Roberts. It will likely be followed by a live in-studio performance although the details of that are still being worked out." However, an ABC insider tells Page Six, "[Lambert] was not canceled over a gay kiss. He showed himself to be unpredictable on live TV.... Chris Brown's interview was booked way before Adam Lambert took to the stage. It is to give him a chance to respond to Rihanna's interview. The possibility of him performing a song will be worked out next week."

Yesterday, the NY Times' Alessandra Stanley pondered whether a double standard was being applied to Lambert: "It wasn’t the best musical performance by any means, but it wasn’t the worst display of sexual debauchery either. Mostly it was a reminder of television’s policy regarding gay men: Do tell, just don’t show."

I'd like to see the celebrity death match - really. Each attempting to apply their exhibited skills on the other.

Let the gay boy do his thing!

  • pinball29

Youre all missing the obvious point made in the post. The crime of Adam Lambert on network TV was that of being 'UNPREDICTABLE', not lewd. To corporate media drones, this is worse than screwing children.

  • freddynyc

Black guys know how to keep their bitches and hos in line. The execs at GMA want the world to acknowledge that...

  • I think its pretty funny how all these american idol kids try so hard to become their own artist that they do anything they possibly can to distance themselves. They just need to embrace that AI got them where they are and stop acting so stupid. Carrie underwood is the only one that has done this successfully.

  • thewildpansy

    Ignorant liberal idiots:

This doesn't have to do with their personal life. It has to do with the fact that Lambert did things on TV that may upset some viewers and they don't want to upset their viewers if he does something like that again. Chris Brown didn't do anything ON TV to upset viewers.

    Shut the fuck up.

And I would kiss a boy so don't call me homophobe, you ignorant whiney swine.

  • Guest

would you kiss lambert or brown?

  • NannyState

    Pedophile.

  • Guest

of course it's ok to praise convicted girlfriend beaters! but it's wrong to showcase people who are gay on tv--what would jesus do?

    it's the american way!

    ...

  • Adam Lambert knows Sex and Controversy sells. This was all just a cheap stunt designed to get Free Publicity, nothing more. Kudos to him for it.

Really, GMA. Chris "Convicted GF Abuser" Brown? Smart, help the convicted POS out...

  • Both have a negative background, they should have hire somebody else who had a good image with the people..

Stop getting mad at networks for airing this crap and start yelling at your douchebag friends (we all have some) for watching it.

  • nicemarmot

You are entirely correct. We also need to figure out who the hell keeps buying things from telemarketers and slap them repeatedly.

  • ides_of_march

I hate to be such a downer (not entirely true) but the right wing Christian conservative boogiemen that so many of you believe are behind all this controversy probably didn't watch this Lambert twit on TV or are they likely to watch this other thug. The vast majority of them gave up on pop culture long ago and don't give a rat's ass about any of this.

That's what REALLY has all the show biz narcissists pissed off.

  • robingee

There are Christian media watchdog groups that organize protests of every little thing they find "wrong" with TV shows or even commercials and movies.

  • casey shain

i hate to stay on point here, (not entirely true) but no one in any of the above posts mentioned "right wing conservatives." every post here is complaining about ABC and the powers that run the GMA show. i loves me some right wing conservative bashing (entirely true) but no one mentioned them vis-a-vis this situation until you felt the need to interject them into the conversation.

  • The Edge

    what about left wing conservatives?

  • MrManhattan

Or the zebra striped unicorns or the intelligent Republicans?

  • rasputinsghost

and even if they didn't watch it, that's never stopped anybody in America from complaining about it before.

  • cindy

I will never promote GMA again I don't care whos on unless they rectify the situation. They give a woman beater publicity and a chance to try to win some people back, yet Adam doesn't get a chance to show that he is about so much more then that performance, and how brillant his album is. Because Abusive people are so not spontaneous.

  • jjazznola

Brillant? I'm guessing you meant brilliant. Compared to what? Milli Vanilli? longacre is right on the money. Lambert, Brown, Mariah, Whitney, Rhianna, Britney, Gaga etc... Most pop music today is absolute garbage. It's the fast food of music.

  • inoyourider

GMA was irrelevant 10 years ago.

It's just another pimped-out self-promotion vehicle for ABC, like the other morning shows.

    Zero value.

  • inoyourider

I'm sure given the consequences (you not promoting them anymore) they will cave in immediately.

  • 3Chord

same record company folks -- jive/rca. they took the snub of the overtly gay fellow and turned it into a favor for the violent girlfriend abuser.

  • MrManhattan

There are still record companies? I thought the internet cured that disease years ago.

  • ANGRYGOD11

Wasn't the time record companies had any clout over TV networks over many years ago?

Isn't record company an outdated term?

  • Mr Mel

You mean like 8 track and VHS.

  • casey shain

that's a really interesting detail of the situation, 3Chord. thanks for that info! i didn't know that before this.

  • NannyState

Girlfriend-beating is more family-friendly than simulated gay sex? GMA should have hired Pat Robertson a long time ago.

  • casey shain

i've never actually watched GMA. do they show the outside audience like the Today show does? i think we need to organize about 1000 gay guys to stage a kiss-in all morning outside their studios. i haven't had a date in 15 years, or i'd volunteer to be the first, lol.

  • bitchincamaro

"Next up on Good Morning America: R. Kelly will show us how pissing in your leftover turkey gravy will extend its shelf life, and yours! Stay right there."

  • nicemarmot

Adam Lambert, take note. All you have to do to get back on GMA is brutally attack your band, instead of making out with them.

  • tingo

Good Morning America must realize that their middle-American audience actually believes that being gay is worse than beating your girlfriend.

Nice job on promoting that, GMA.

  • Sadly...GMA is probably correct. F+ for effort though, Good Morning America. You kind of make me sick to my stomach.

  • ides_of_march

They probably figure he isn't likely to be beating her on the show but who knows.
