Last Night's Action: Putting Wins Together

Rangers 2, Panthers 1 (SO): Henrik Lundqvuist came up large in the shootout after stopping all but one shot in regulation, and the Rangers had their first winning steak since mid-October. P.A. Parenteau had the only strike in the shootout. Marian Gaborik had his 19th goal, a power-play score, with 25 seconds to go in the third period. That had a chance to be the difference until Dominic Moore scored off a a Sean Avery turnover with just less than five minutes to go in the third. The Rangers play at Tampa Bay on Friday.

Flyers 2, Islanders 1: A return to Nassau Coliseum wasn't all it was cracked up to be. The Islanders had all of one shot on goal in the third period. Needless to say, they weren't able to make Trent Hunter's first-period goal count for anything.

Devils 3, Senators 1: Patrick Elias finally scored, and the Devils took advantage. Elias had missed the first 13 games and hadn't scored in his first seven back. But he scored the go-ahead goal to break a 1-1 tie with 1:36 to go in the second period. Niclas Bergfors had the first New Jersey goal, and Jamie Langenbrunner added an empty-netter.

Kings 111, Knicks 97: The Knicks don't play good enough defense to get away with shooting 38 percent from the floor. David Lee had 25 points and 12 rebounds during a 10-for-16 performance. The rest of the team shot 25-of-75 including 10-of-39 on 3-pointers. After the holiday, the Knicks visit Denver on Friday.

Trail Blazers 93, Nets 83: Not good, but not new, either. Asking the Nets to break their season-opening winning streak on the West Coast may be too much. The Nets now have the third-longest such streak to open a season. Brook Lopez had 32 points and 14 rebounds in the loss. Could the Nets take down the Kings on Friday?

It's actually what's called a losing streak. A team that hasn't yet won a game definitely hasn't had a winning streak.

It would be a depressing basketball outcome only if it was not completely expected. Both teams are total shit -- there is nothing else left to call them. At this point, firing the coaches would serve no purpose because you'd need to fire the players and the owners as well. Right now the only people doing their jobs properly are those working behind the concession stand.
