The day before Thanksgiving is traditionally one of the busiest times of the year for travel, with roads and airports clogged with those heading for turkey, family, friends and relaxation. However, the economy has made some people rethink their travel plans. According to WCBS 2, "Thanksgiving travel plummeted a staggering 25 percent between 2007 and 2008, and many of those habits seem to be sticking this year. The number of people traveling is likely to stay about the same, inching up only by about 1.4 percent, according to an AAA prediction."
Back in 2005, 58 million Americans traveled during the holiday—while only 38 million are expected to make some sort of trip this year. And for those who are traveling, some new considerations are being made: One Syracuse, NY family opted to take the train to Omaha, Nebraska because five train tickets cost $800, versus $2,500+ for airline tickets.
Good luck to everyone traveling (maybe especially those flying in/out of area airports). And to those staying put—enjoy the lack of stress!

I'm surprise the family didn't think about driving. With 2 drivers you could make the trip in a day (18 hours or so).
But how many miles until one of the drivers snaps and drives into a tree?
