Miss G Train has officially been crowned. Last Thursday the City Reliquary held their pageant for the line, and fittingly the evening was met with some hold ups — the Brooklyn Paper reports that one judge was delayed, and two contestants never even showed up.
Of the nine finalists, it was 27-year-old Astoria resident Elizabeth Kuchta who wowed the judges (just narrowly beating out Greenpoint drag queen Shane Thor). She wore a "walk of shame" ensemble and declared, “The only thing worse than riding the G is riding the G in last night’s dress." Indeed. (Watch some footage here.)
The City Reliquary's president, Dave Herman, explained the quirky contest, saying, “It’s like rooting for the Mets when the Yankees keep going to the World Series. You gotta stick with it. It’s our hometown subway line.” See all the winners here.

are these women or men?
The one in the middle is suspect.
Did the contest start 40 minutes late, in true G train fashion?
who gives a shit
Oh come on, the G never even makes it to Astoria anymore
Very true!
Dave Herman? Wouldn't be the former radio personality (WNEW-FM), would it?
Different Dave Herman
i'd wait 40 minutes for that g train & ride it to the end of the line.
Do you have any idea what kind of people have ridden her?
Fantastic...props to Ms. Kuchta and the judges on that one.
Now that the G runs to Church I hate it a lot less...for those times when going to Williamsburg is a thing that must be done.
