Last Night's Action: Giants Win In OT; Jets, Knicks Stumble

  • Giants 34, Falcons 31 (OT): They needed 42 days, but the Giants finally won again. It wasn't easy: Up 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Giants narrowly avoided disaster when the Falcons started a comeback, capped by a Tony Gonzalez touchdown to force the extra session. Lawrence Tynes kicked a 36-yard field goal to put the Giants at 6-4 and keep them in the thick of things for a playoff spot.

Eli Manning, who has never had a 300-yard game at home, threw for 384 yards and three touchdowns—two of those to Kevin Boss. The Giants get slumping Denver on Thanksgiving.
  • Patriots 31, Jets 14: At times, Mark Sanchez has like a veteran. Sunday was not one of those times. He threw four interceptions and fumbled once as the Jets fell to 4-6 in embarrassing fashion at New England. The first of Sanchez's interceptions was returned 53 yards for a touchdown, and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Sanchez never looked in sync, though he did have a 29-yard touchdown to Jerricho Cotchery.

That didn't help the Jets overcome a first half in which they had 34 total yards and seven points -- off a blocked punt. Tom Brady didn't have much trouble—although Darrelle Revis took away Randy Moss except for a strange touchdown. Wes Welker caught 15 balls for 192 yards. The Jets get Carolina at home next Sunday
  • Celtics 107, Knicks 105 (OT): The Knicks' "winning streak" is over at two games—Boston's Kevin Garnett hit a shot at the buzzer in overtime to hand the Knicks their 10th loss in 13 games this season. Al Harrington had 30 points off the bench and David Lee added 22. The Knicks, who trailed at one point, 67-53, led 82-77 entering the fourth quarter. But they ended up losing the see-saw affair.

Was there any gunplay on the part of the New Jersey players involved? Otherwise why is this news?

The Jets link actually goes to the Yahoo story about the Giants game. Correct Yahoo story on the Jets game is here:

Bad linking day for Gothamist. This is my third correction.

The Jets play calling is terrible. Their execution is subpar. Sanchez is not helping himself by heaving balls and hoping someone on his team makes a catch. If/when the ball finds its way to a Jet receiver, they invariably drop the ball. Horrible
