The WNYC "Radio Rookies" recently went on a search for the "Flushing Pimp," whom many have consistently seen on the streets in Queens throughout the years (he's even got a Facebook page dedicated to him). Their search took some dark turns, however, when they ultimately found out through his sister that he died, after battling spinal cancer, lung cancer and two brain tumors. He was also allegedly schizophrenic, which was triggered after his mom died when he was 19. So, while this isn't as whimsical as we'd hoped, it's sweet he's been given a posthumous tribute.
Interesting piece -this makes one aware that you never know who is watching you! I grew up in Flushing -nice to know the young minds are at work there! Keep up the good work! Nice Tribute!

I think it's awesome that these high school kids appreciated this guy. New York needs more wacky characters like this. Too bad they couldn't find more photos.

Cool guy, RIP, but this video isn't so great.

That's because it's made by teenagers reporting for a National Public Radio show, silly.
This statement comes off as a little too honest. Many of the otherwise anonymous people that Gothamist chooses to spotlight are indeed crazy and troubled (like, say, the 23-year-old Superman).
