Rail Condition Snarls A, C, E, F, And V Commutes

2009_11_servalert.jpg A tipster described his morning commute on the F as screwy (Manhattan-bound F rerouted to Hoyt-Schermerhorn, to pick up the A/C) —and NYC Transit workers chalked it up to a broken rail. The MTA's service alert page says, "Due to a rail condition at the 14th Street Station, 168th Street-bound C trains are running on the express track between the Canal Street Station and the 59th Street-Columbus Circle Station. Jamaica-bound E trains are running on the express track between the Canal Street Station and the 42nd Street Station. Please expect delays on the A, C, E, F and V trains at this time."

Two days in a row for the shitty F train. Glad I got to work from home these past two days.

Added about 20 minutes to my commute this morning on the A. Everyone was groaning and complaining and cursing the MTA. Welcome to NYC, please expect delays. Didn't bother me none. I got to finish my book just before I got off at 14th.

@blacksquare A commute during rush hour is always going to be an uncomfortable situation. Whether it's on a train here or driving in some other big city. If you think we're going to see a day where everyone gets a seat on the train and it's a pleasant experience that gets you there quickly, you really need to accept that'll never happen and just move out of NYC.

@FJF I was lucky enough to get a seat, end seat too! Finished up Hunter S. Thompson's Hell's Angels. Great read.

"Welcome to NYC, please expect delays"- maybe this complacent attitude has something to do with the poor service that never gets any better. If this morning's commute "didn't bother you none" then obviously your weekday mornings are more leisurely than mine.

These kinds of interruptions should bother us, especially after fare hikes and months of disruptive "maintenance" on the F. Let's demand that we get what we pay for, people!

Seriously. The only thing you can do at that point is stick your nose in a book and try to ignore all the people bitching around. Hope you were lucky enough to get a seat during rush hour.
