Should Coaches Cry?

2009_11_rexry.jpg Earlier this week, the Post revealed that Jets coach Rex Ryan broke down in tears when addressing his 4-5 team on Monday morning. To say the least, some of the players were shocked, with Darrell Revis saying, "I was a little upset to see him that way. I'm upset for the same reasons he's upset." Ryan said, "I'm just being myself and sometimes that happens. Very rarely, but it happens," but some New Yorkers want the 340-pound coach to keep his emotions to himself—or at least at home. One told the Daily News, "You can't be crying like that. He should go home and cry on his wife's shoulder, not in the locker room. This is New York."

You know I'm torn on this issue. Coaches crying after a loss like this is not cool and coaches crying while taking about a player is not cool and all of these http://www.ranker.com/list/vid... coaches crying are not cool but... wait, none of it's cool. Coaches, stop crying you little sissies!

Crying often is lame. Crying on rare occasions is good. Good for him. Good to see how invested he is in his team.

The fan that said, "You can't be crying like that. He should go home and cry on his wife's shoulder, not in the locker room. This is New York," is funny. Why can't you cry in NYC? Is it only OK, in say, Oklahoma City?

Hey, at least the guy seems to take his job seriously. And I seem to remember fans hating Willie Randolph because he showed no emotion as a manager.

I think what we can all take from this is most NY sports fans just like to bitch and moan ... about anything.

"Why can't you cry in NYC? Is it only OK, in say, Oklahoma City?"

I would be surprised if there were any men crying in Oklahoma City. New York City, on the other hand, is full of ethnic groups with straight men who kiss each other on a daily basis. Crying in public seems like a natural progression.

Yes, god forbid men show a little emotion. They must be macho automatons at all times, especially in the realm of the sporting world!

Crying shows vulnerability. In sports, capitalizing on another's vulnerabililties is key in winning. So there should NEVER be crying in sports.
