Now Who's Sacrificing Chickens in Brooklyn?

Oh dear. A reader just sent in the above photo and tells us, "On my way to work this morning, I spotted a sacrificed chicken on the steps of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception at the corner of Maujer and Leonard in Williamsburg." Clearly it's not for Kapparot. This leaves a few other options: Santeria, an offering from the nearby Cult of Michael Jackson, Twilight marketing.

I don't know what to make of the idiocy found on your first sentence, so I will ignore this dubious trait of yours for now (though it's quite apparent you're becoming reactive and egoic the more this conversation carries on).

Look, you can be whatever you like that is what this country was founded upon (and is is not nice that this country was founded by the Freemasonic Founding Fathers? who gave you such freedom).

My issue here is that you decided to equate a Black Magic-Sorcery practice found in Santeria and correlated with Religion in general (not understanding that Eastern Religions and Esoteric Movements are not in the same league as Exoteric Monotheism or what is essentially Lunar Worship found in Santeria).

I never said that I was an expert, but the GNOSIS, the Esoteric Thought and knowledge found there off is by miles far more advance in knowing The Mysteries in the universe with actual factual practices and proof that has been passed down since Ancient Times then Modern Science (which simply builds from a blind on up).

I am not knocking down Modern Science (it is vey beneficial to all), but it does not have all the answers that it seeks found in Occult Science (which now is penetrating bigger Mysteries of Life).

    Could be bird flu.

Religion and its many crazy idiots!

Santeria is strong with African traditions in the caribean portions of south america. But let's not forget of very traditional colonial expansion via catholic beliefs' oppression of moral superiority that allowed the worse genocide in history; and I'm talking the invincible

    Aborigines of the Americas here!

I sent this to Gothamist as a curiosity, but I'm almost wishing I hadn't due to the disgusting racist and culturally bigoted comments it's inspiring. "Go back to the jungle"? Really? How about "Get the fuck out of my city, you pathetic atavistic troglodyte"

  • NannyState

That's why I stopped going to El Pollo Diablo: they serve up too much raw chicken.

  • guitaristanyc

Well, Santeria is a religion practiced primarily by people who come from regions where there are jungles. Anyway, why should any religion be given respect? All religion are primitive and savage and should be left in the dustbin of history.

  • Soggy

That may be true of all religions, but people of other religions aren't called savages. Don't try to play down the perfectly valid point elpollodiablo made.

  • guitaristanyc

"people of other religions aren't called savages."

Savage is as savage does. Leaving sacrificed animals on a street is a savage act. I am a liberal, but even I know that Political Correctness has its limits.

  • Boogie Down

    Your city?

  • k8trsgray

This is not the first time this has happened at this closed down church. About 2 months ago there were two dead chickens(heads in tact)in a cardboard box. Creepy.

  • elpollodiablo

I always see huge piles of old clothing piled on these same steps for some reason. Any idea what's up with that?

  • potsmoker

its almost 2010 for crying out loud if you still want to swing an animal over your head and sacrifice it to transfer your sins to the chicken in the name of whatver hocus pocus god you believe in then leave our country and go back to the Israel.

Jungles and Third World Savages, but we can slice it up, carve it up and shrink wrap it and its all good in the hood.

Santeria is an acceptable alternative religious practice based on african rituals and beliefs.

If all of south america adopted a new religion based on native culteral beliefs instead of what a funny guy in funny hat in the vatican says, the world would be a much better place. Conversion came at the end of a sword.

If someone offered you a bullet or kneel before a statute of god of playdoh covered in skittles, you'd take the floor gladly. do that enough an we'd have a whole new society and in a few hundred years the idea of a man on a cross being resurrected would be pure comedy.

  • HBHB

It's almost 2010 for crying out loud! If you still want to bleed animals in the name of whatever warped hocus pocus god you believe in then leave our country and go back to the jungle.

  • thefacts

Maybe it was a message from the Mafia: fear us, or you will sleep with the chickens.

Seriously, unless posters berating this are vegetarians, I fail to see this being any less moral than eating a Chicken McNugget. If YOU kill a chicken, it's OK; but if someone else does it,it's horrible?

    What a double standard!

  • Boogie Down

Sustenance vs. religion. One is needed for survival (though I'm not saying it needs to be in the form of meat), the other is a fabrication.

    Killing chickens is legal.

This is a public health issue.

  • jibbly

    Agreed.

  • felixthecat2

    3rd world Savages.

  • chuzzlewit

    was that photo taken mid-faint?

  • militza

that poor chicken! though I love the way the person who left it had the decency to put a blue plastic bag on top of it. RIP
