In a time when most newspapers see their futures on the internet, the Daily News has put $150 million where it might make the least sense: brand new printing presses. The paper "heralded a new era for New York's favorite newspaper" with a gala yesterday to celebrate its new printing presses, which are faster than the older presses and capable of printing color on every page — potentially allowing paper to secure more lucrative color ads and push back its deadlines to gain an an edge on the Post.
Real estate magnate and Daily News owner Mort Zuckerman claims the presses will offer "a much higher level of production and make it once again a modern newspaper." That said, the Times points out that Zuckerman signed for the new plants two years ago, before a steep drop in ad revenue and his paper's subsequent decline in weekday circulation from 700,000 to 550,000. Zuckerman defended his decision: "I’ve been a contrarian for my entire business career. My commitment here is to the long term."

Some folks don't want to stare at a screen all day for everything... work, home, play.
It's still nice to take a magazine or newspaper onto a train, into the toilet, or on a chair on the beach.
Wonder what percentage of profit the print edition is responsible for?
For all the hype surrounding the internet there's still a big lack of income coming from it for most businesses.
Read a great article in NewYork too, stating that the TV Networks were dead because clips were from shows like SNL were sometimes getting as many as 100,00 hits!!!
Somehow they forgot that the initial broadcast draws MILLIONS (warranted or not).
Internet is one OPTION of delivery, but it is certainly not the most popular for anything other than porn, and even PORN loses money on the internet.
But yeah, poke fun at these crazy old-fashioned newspaper people who recognize where their bread is buttered.
Implying that the New York Times isnt a better newspaper.
The Daily News is the best newspaper in New York
Ads work much better in newspapers and magazines. When they pop up on my screen I hit the X button, poof, they go away. Or they're little banners at the top or the side.
You open a paper or a magazine, they're spread out in front of you -- and harder to avoid.
The death of print papers and magazines may be the wish of environmentalists and tech heads, but it's still a long way off.

How many years till they are handing these out for free as you get onto the train? I'm going to say...5. I want to say 3, but that might be jumping the gun.
