Are The Pool Parties Drying Up?

Now that Williamsburg has become a popular destination for tour groups and fashion students, the hipsters who took over the neighborhood years ago are losing their precious Pool Parties. Circle of life. We're told that with the deadline quickly approaching to find a new spot, there's no agreement in place and "the end could be near." As such, Senator Chuck Schumer is requesting that the community show some support—this summer the very same Senator Schumer pledged to the audience at one show that the free concerts would be back on the waterfront in 2010.

However, we're now told that "the future of the Pool Parties at the East River State Park could be in jeopardy. After a very successful 2009 season... news came from the New York State Parks Department and the Open Space Alliance that the East River State Park may not be available to JELLY for the 2010 season." But Schumer said!

To support the JELLY folk, who work tirelessly to put on these events every year, you can call Senator Charles Schumer at (212) 486-4430, or email phil(at)schumer(dot)senate(dot)gov — in turn, he'll "relay the public opinion to the NYS Parks Department and the Open Space Alliance."

UPDATE: Schumer has released the following statement, saying, “I happened to pass by the JELLY concerts when I was riding my bike through Williamsburg and was amazed at the thousands of people who lined the streets to come to the concerts. People from every part of the country who had made their way to Brooklyn, enjoying music and one another’s company - it’s the best of New York. When I heard that the concerts might be cancelled, I couldn’t understand why given that this is exactly what our parks are supposed to be for and I am going to do everything I can to see that they continue.”

Getting slower by the day, Jen#2!
This story has already made the rounds at FreeWilliamsburg (natch!) and The Awl today!

It's not just your slowness to post, it's the brazenness with which you continually gank their stories.

shame, Shame, SHAME! I'm sending out Arnold Diaz.

That's what blogs do, and that is why they're nice to read.
Get a real job, trend faggot!

Really, someone with Pansy in their name is throwing the word Faggot around?

Watch the homophobia, Pansy.

Really? Do we really need more articles about these lazy, pouting, coffee-drinking, skulking, trust-fund, "artistic" hipsters?

HA Jen wins, you worthless whiner.

I don't read either of those sites. So your logic is flawed

Bahahah! "That's what blogs do"
No, blogs usually LINK to anything that is a repost.
This is outright story-stealing, and journalistically frowned upon.
And calling me a faggot? I am the sniper... this is what I do.

And without even so much as a "via FreeWilliamsburg"

You are a word thief!

I love Free Willliamsburg, but Free Williamsburg wasn't the only outlet to get the press release sent out by JellyNYC's PR people!

Nice excuse. So why sit on the press release so long? Why not jump right on this "big news"?

PS: Why not "promote" Jen#2 to full-time "proofreader"? Since you could easily "write" most of her stories by skimming any number of so-called "hipster" blogs, it would put her skills to better use. We all know Gothamist is in SERIOUS need of spelling/syntax/grammar checks!

While this guy is a total douche, he does have a point that this site needs to work on the spelling, grammar, typos, etc.

hey sniper. just curious...do you realize you're a total douchebag?

Eh who cares. Pool parties suck.

I was leaving the show as Schumer arrived... in a town car with 2 large security men. Bike riding my ass. Who rides a bike in a button down shirt?

Too good! Wish these self-serving pols would dry up off the face of the earth already!

- common opinion among Pool Party attendees.

"Who rides a bike in a button down shirt?"

Apparently you've never actually been to Williamsburg.

Move them to Astoria Park Pool. Anybody who knows anything in this town is in Astoria already anyway.

Glad our esteemed senior Senator and de facto #3 of the nation's ruling party is concentrating on the most pressing crises of our time.

Hope these don't go away, and if Chucky Schumer can help I'm all for it. But honestly, to say he's concentrating on this - you don't know Schumer. Stick a mic or a reporter with a pencil in front of his face, he's apt to say just about anything and then do nothing about it.

I'm sure if two or three of these kids called up their daddies to write some checks then the spot will remain theirs to continue annoying the neighborhood every summer.

Who the fuck cares about pool parties and Billyburg hipster music! Chalk up another reason to NOT reelect the moron Schumer and endure his worthless flowcharts and empty promises!
