Appeals Court Suggests More Prison Time For Lynne Stewart

Yesterday, a federal appeals court panel of three judges upheld the conviction of lawyer Lynne Stewart for smuggling messages from a radical leader to his followers in Egypt. And the panels also thinks a judge should consider increasing her prison time from the 28 month sentence that was already handed down.

Stewart had defended terrorist Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman and was found guilty of ferrying messages between him and his followers in violation of special administrative measures. Stewart said she was simply being a "zealous advocate" for her client, but a judge wrote, "A genuinely held intent to represent a client ‘zealously’ is not necessarily inconsistent with criminal intent." Stewart's bail was also revoked, and she may be going to prison this afternoon.

Stewart was defiant after the ruling, "I will go on fighting... I'm no criminal," and told supporters, "Visit me in jail. Send money to the commissary!" She also said it was a warning to lawyers who might represent defendants in the upcoming 9/11 terror trials, "If you’re going to lawyer for these people, you’d better toe very close to the line that the government has set out" or else they "will end up like Lynne Stewart."

Female plumbing issue? I thought I was looking at Bobby Riggs who just got older, fatter, uglier and dumber.

  • Clarice City

She was on the Democracy Now radio show this very afternoon explaining that she was trying to stay out of prison another few weeks so that she could get surgery to correct some "female plumbing issues" as she put it. I can't get that gag- inducing phase from repeating like a broken record in my brain all day.

Well, looks like the 'ol "female plumbing" excuse didn't work out for her.

  • NannyState

The first surgery to disconnect her anus from her mouth was a failure.

  • Clarice City

Obviously she wanted the female plumbing to be in ship shape for women's prison.

One look at that ugly creature and I start to think the Taliban might have a valid point about the burqua. I'm not surprised she likes islamic terrorists. To men who've been boinking goats and camels in the desert for years, she maybe doesn't look quite so revolting.

Esq. Stewart isn't a terrorist. She has fought against all oppression and devoted her whole life to civil liberties and racial equality. The govt should be sentenced for treason against the people.

After the first World Trade Center bombing in February 1993, the FBI began to investigate Rahman and his followers more closely. With the assistance of an Egyptian informant wearing a listening device, the FBI managed to record Rahman issuing a fatwa encouraging acts of violence against US civilian targets, particularly in the New York and New Jersey metropolitan area. The most startling plan, the government charged, was to set off five bombs in 10 minutes, blowing up the United Nations, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, the George Washington Bridge and a federal building housing the FBI. (See New York City landmark bomb plot.) Government prosecutors showed videotapes of defendants mixing bomb ingredients in a garage before their arrest in 1993. Rahman was arrested on June 24, 1993, along with nine of his followers.[10] On October 1, 1995, he was convicted of seditious conspiracy, and in 1996 was sentenced to life in prison.[11].

Lynn Stewart was convicted for helping Rahman.

Sounds like you agree with everything he did. Sounds like you are a FIRST CLASS A-HOLE.

He is! He can't think for himself. He allows the Internet and far left wing to do all of his thinking for him.

describing yourself as a zealot, even if it is a legal term, is not a good idea when terrorists are involved.
