Last weekend, NY Times reporter Ariel Kaminer wrote about her experience taking the Church of Scientology's personality test and almost managing to go a little deeper into the mysterious group. This weekend, the Post tries to up the ante by speaking with a former member: "MANDY MULLEN, 20, a shop assistant from Old Bridge, NJ, joined Scientology last year when the religion claimed it could fix her spinal disorder, Scoliosis. But, she tells The Post, it did nothing but destroy her finances and mess with her mind — forcing her to break free a few months ago..."
Mullen, in the opinion piece, writes:
"Your face makes me want to puke.”She also says she once witnessed, at a fundraiser where members are implored to donate (staffers would yell, "This is your planet and all you care about is your money! You should be giving every last dollar! If you don’t give your money you’re a Suppressive Agent!") one man cry, “I’ve donated so much money that I’m broke. I have nothing left. You took all my money.”
“You look like a big dufus sitting there.”For two straight hours, I sat in a chair, not allowed to move a muscle or blink, staring into the eyes of the man slinging insults at me.
I was in a TR — or Training Routine — at the Church of Scientology on West 46th Street in Midtown Manhattan, a session that cost $150.
The process was called “auditing.” Ultimately, it was supposed to make your IQ skyrocket and give you greater confidence and control in life. At one point, the church brass even told me that Scientology — the religion founded by L. Ron Hubbard in 1952 that offers spiritual rehabilitation — could straighten my spine, which has been curved with Scoliosis since I was born.
Mullen claims she directed thousands to the group and couldn't move out of her parents' home, which was problematic to the church, since she was supposed to distance herself from non-believers. She ultimately left—after much drama— after an ethics officer said, “You’re too open-minded to be a Scientologist" (perhaps for looking at an anti-Scientology site) and ended up joining a Scientology protest taking place outside!

"You're too open-minded to be a Scientologist" -- is there anything else that needs to be said after that?
Seriously, after reading that sentence I feel it's all I need to know about this crazy thing.
Huh... something of value in the Post?
Whenever i see the scientology zombies in the subway with their bogus "stress test" I always ask them who Xenu is. The reactions can be quite something. Give it a whirl sometime.
"it did nothing but destroy her finances " What kind of finances could a 20 year old possibly have? Did she inherit the Vanderbilt holdings? A default on her $199 a month car payment on her 2007 KIA sport coupe is hardly a financial heartbreak.
I don't see anywhere that she claimed to be wealthy. Obviously, whatever financial assets she had, humble as they were, went down the scientology drain. Scientology doesn't care, they'll take whatever a person has.
it says she "directed thousands" to them.
"Thousands" could be $2,000, $4,000, $5,000. It doesn't necessarily mean hundreds of thousands. Maybe a lot of 20 year olds are broke, but many others have jobs. Besides - that's part of the insidious way that Scientology works. They ask for money bit by bit until you realize your bank account is nearly empty. Those $150 sessions and $30 books add up quickly.
Anyone who's "open-minded" cannot be part of any religion because ultimately you will disagree with it.
Shut them down and arrest them once and for all! I realize it's un-American to do this, but they're not a religion. They stalked me for six months, leaving me messages several times a day and mailing me handwritten cards, begging me to come back and finish my coursework. And they sent their little droids to post-Katrina New Orleans... it took everything in me to not throw rocks.
The germans are doing just that. Scientology is banned there and their leadership arrested if they attempt to spread their money-grubbing "faith".
Scientology is not a religion. Its a snake oil con. Plain and simple. Buyer beware. Anyone who doesn't realize that by now is asleep at the wheel.
"Lafayette Ronald Hubbard (March 13, 1911 – January 24, 1986) was an American science fiction author" Do any of these dumb fools get the last part of his biography? Probably no more than the Christians, Jews, Muslims and all the other duh duh's in this world.
The Church of Scientology operates like a scam. It doesn't have to fool you or me, it only has to fool enough people to make a reasonable profit for it to survive.
Unfortunately it is not just the scammed that suffer, it is their loved ones. The argument that "it's their fault, why should we help them" doesn't help distraught parents and abandoned children.
You can fool all of the people some of the time and some of the people all of the time, but you can't fool P. T. Barnum. Actually he was also fooled regarding a cherry colored cat, but that was a rarity.
Damn...I Soooooooooooo want to start my own "religion". Just something so appealing about people GIVING you their money in exchange for fairy tales.
I can't believe she found her way to 4chan and then her next step was to join.
Yeah. It's totally different from Christianity and Judaism, which make complete sense.
It's quite a bit different when you charge people who you are "helping".
"... as they were sitting down to their meal, church officials forbade them from eating pork or shellfish, and proceeded to give a lecture about how homosexuals were disobeying the church and would be punished by spending eternity below the surface of the earth while being tortured by monsters."
Don't everybody roll your eyes and get high and mighty about Scientology.
Scientology isn't a ridiculous farce, begging for money from the memebers and imposing arbitrary and meaningless restrictions on their members.
That's the whole of organized religion.
Scientology just seems silly and more worthy of scorn because you're not used to it. Judiasm and Christianity are no different.
How well does any Disgruntled employee Talk about there formal Place of Business?
Notice that there are only bad remarks on Scientology? Why don't they interview Good standing Scientologists? Is it any wonder that Scientology sounds crazy?
Why is it growing so fast if it is all so bad? Maybe crazy people and Media makes everything sound bad.
This is an abundant universe... There is a reason people CAN"T HAVE. That seems to be the biggest complaint against Scientology is that it is so expensive.
It's successful members Don't mind paying, as they know that is why it is expanding so fast. Notice the insanity around us. You handle it by making one person at a time sane. Upsets is why people remain insane. Get it handled, It's your life. Who ever saw anyone with a bad attitude win in life?
Fixing the Mind , means Fixing ones Life. Insane people won't change. They would rather just blame and complain.
Someone who Blames will not Grow. One who does not grow will never HAVE. Why listen to those types?
Listen to those that are successful, they are the ones who have GROWN and can HAVE... I only see the Quitters complaining on this blog. Quitters can't HAVE and will be miserable and will make Jesus sound Bad.
Listen with an open Mind to www.Scientology.Net If you can't afford it well go to www.BeFinanciallySecureNOW.com
This is an abundant Universe, you deserve your share.
If you think like the Rich you will be rich. If you think like the Poor you will be Poor. One has to learn to earn. One has to Grow to have abundance...
Either you're an elaborate troll or you're completely out of your tiny Scientologist mind. Carry on.
"If you think like the Rich you will be rich."
Dude, I totally do that! I wake up and I'm all, "Time to leave my mansion and go to my millionaire job in my limo!" But then I still have a small apartment and a Honda Civic and a job in Brooklyn. HUH! Didn't work!
Also, "being rich" isn't important to everyone. It isn't to me.
I just knew it was those damned body thetans that kept me from picking up that dollar bill off the sidewalk.
I never understood the whole Xenu thing... they cannot really believe that, can they? I mean, the Dianetics and all that is something I can see people getting into, but how can you believe some made up crap from a sci-fi writer? I guess the same way people believed Joseph Smith when he said a bunch of crap and had ZERO proof of any of it.
As far as "older" religions... yeah I believe they are silly as well but at least they are ancient and people are brought up with these beliefs and there are some good things in there... I can see people believing in some tome that has been around for thousands of years more than people believing a bunch of alien stuff that was invented quite recently. What motivates anyone to believe that? Can I make up a bunch of stuff and get followers too?
Yes, you can. You just have to pretend you really believe it and find some really gullible assholes to make it look like you have "believers" and off you go. It's been a reliable scam for roughly as long as people have settled in one place...give or take 10000 years. There was even a pre-Jesus religion scam in Egypt that was basically identical to Jesus! Nothing new under the sun.
I am a Scientologist, so you know what I am going to say.
Let's take the word " religion " - the root of the word is " Rex " which means " to rule ".
Religion is what rules your life.
What rules your life ? Money ? Sex ? God ? A desire to honestly help people ? A craving to destroy what you don't understand ??
Attacking a religion is easy, easy but senseless. Call another person's faith nonsense and weaken your own.
This story contains false information. The drills called TRs are drills intended to help a person face things in life. They are designed to increase ability. They are proven in use to help people. Auditing is another activity altogether.
Scientology contains information about Life, how it works, and more importantly, how to better life for yourself and others.
Life on this planet is in trouble. War is constant, crime is higher than ever, drugs are now the " solution " to education, war and crime, but they don't work.
These conditions do not exist inside of Scientology, It is the first International religion. The people I have seen work with true cooperation and friendship. Drugs are frowned on and crime is minimal, people get handled. Statistically, where Scientology is active in an area, crime stops and people start working together and I have personally seen an area abandoned by Scientology decay in a matter of weeks to drug dealers and homeless.
The reason that Scientology betters conditions is because Ron Hubbard discovered basic truth about Life, the spiritual universe and the mind. He was an explorer, a engineer, an author, a student of nuclear physics and, during the second world war, a Naval Officer. He lived life and wrote about it.
The information he wrote can be used by a person to better his life, for no money at all, if a person simply studies in a public library.
Scientology is a religion because it addresses the spirit. Who rules your life? The Spirit.
What's so weird about that?
@Diamonddille, 21 You are nothing more than an apologist for the cult. I've talked to you in the past on RantRave.com and you've personally admitted to your own failure to advance up the Bridge. Is it you, is it the Church of Scientology? It doesn't matter, because you're not part of the organization and we're here to pull back the curtain of lies that surrounds the Church of Scientology. If you're a freezoner, fine, keep your crazy little beliefs and be wary to never engage in the crimes that led to this...the downfall of the Church of Scientology. I won't even waste my time refuting you.
@Handyjer, 26
"Let's take the word " religion " - the root of the word is " Rex " which means " to rule"
Go word clear "religion" you PTS meatbag of fail. Religion derives its roots from the Latin 'religiō' or 'religāre'. The root 'rex' isn't even tied into it and if you believe that it is you have failed at even the most basic principles of understanding. Go back to your Org and demand a refund because they have not done as they promised. Your ableness has actually been REDUCED.
"Attacking a religion is easy, easy but senseless. Call another person's faith nonsense and weaken your own."
Who's attacking a religion? Who said anything about faith? Anonymous is concerned with CRIMES, ACTIONS, DEEDS. Human trafficking, disconnection, fair game, harassment of critics, abuse of the legal system, extortion and blackmail. These are not articles of faith but illegal actions that have been committed by the organization. We seek justice for the victims and an end to the criminal cult. Try to hide behind the guise of religion all you want, we've come NOT for what you BELIEVE, but for what you've DONE.
" The drills called TRs are drills intended to help a person face things in life. They are designed to increase ability. They are proven in use to help people."
What proof? There's no proof other than the required testimony attesting to success. If you don't testify that the course worked, you don't complete it and have to pay for it all over again. That's not the act of a religion, that's a business. You're making scientific claims without any scientific basis. The TRs are little more than simple hypnotic state inducements that hinder a person from being able to critically think or react to the world around them. They don't make you capable of confronting or handling anything, they simple instruct you how to shut yourself down and IGNORE whats happening around you. IT IS BRAINWASHING.
"It is the first International religion"
I think Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Wicca, Shinto, Buddhism, Hinduism, Paganism, Shamanism, and a score of other belief systems were international WAY before L Ron Hubbard was born. Another lie endemic to the organization, like how many members you have, or even the claim to "fastest growing religion".
"Statistically, where Scientology is active in an area, crime stops and people start working together and I have personally seen an area abandoned by Scientology decay in a matter of weeks to drug dealers and homeless."
Show me documented evidence. Claims, over and over again, without any evidence. I went to Iraq with two sticks and began beating them together. Within days there were no mountain lions in the ENTIRE country!! Two days after I left, the country of Iraq experienced a 1000% increase in mountain lion activity. And that's all true, by the way.
"He was an explorer, a engineer, an author, a student of nuclear physics and, during the second world war, a Naval Officer. He lived life and wrote about it."
-L Ron Hubbard failed his engineering and physics courses, never receiving any form of collegiate degree from a recognized institution of higher learning. The "doctorate" he purchased later in life came from a well known degree mill and held no real value.
-He was issued 3 (THREE) relief for causes as a Naval Officer, and only achieved his position after hounding government officials for years. His superiors reported negatively on his actions and he was summarily removed from his post in Australia. He spent WW2 in a hospital claiming to suffer from ulcers and blindness which "miraculously" cured themselves just after his discharge.
-His only exploring was as a child, and his statements on the people of China, Africa, and other locales are well documented and are completely racist and derogatory.
-L Ron Hubbard was a constant liar and con man. The OT III story is ripped right from one of his own, lesser known, science fiction stories "Betrayal Among the Stars", while still existing in his own handwriting in the OT III packet.
Please, continue to post your drivel and lies, the public (or "raw meat" as they are referred to in Scientology doctrine) are far smarter than you give them credit for. Your "acceptable truths" are just lies, and for all that you claim about L Ron Hubbard, he apparently couldn't foresee the Internet and its ability to act as a repository for all human knowledge and to document and provide access to that which was once hidden.
We will be here, waiting, because we are the Guardians of the Internet. We are Anonymous, we do not forgive, and we do not forget.
Expect us.

Here is only one success story that you never see in blogs such as this. Scientology has the tech to get you out of your body stabily and operate as a Spirit with infinite abiliities and Powers.
Listen to the insane hate groups like Anonoymous and you will never know such states exist. They are the same beings way down the track, (that you can't remember till you fix your mind,) why you lost your Spiritual abilities in the first place.
If a Spirit is not just a word with a limited understanding, then I invite you to find out about YOU for your self. Scientology is a Science of the Mind First, a Religion Second, as it deals with you the Spirit. Very real Spiritual abilities can be gained.
It works and is why it is expanding so fast. Of course the hate groups say we only have 10,000 members. well they haven't obviously been to just one of our events. They are miserable and they want you to be miserable.
This is just one testimonial. There are Millions of these. If you prever to listen to the insane, you will never know the truth to who you really are.
Manis just an insane Spiritual Being with Amnesia who has forgotten who he is. Scientology has processes which gets back your memory. Pounder what that means if it is really true... And it is true...
Hello! Seven years ago I took a step into a world that I never knew existed. A world of power and theta and life. Seven years ago I knew that my life was over, I was sick and I was dying. The doctors told me there was no hope. But I took a chance, I listened to something that was bigger than me and I started up The Bridge.
I've done all of my Bridge in the field so coming to Flag was going to be an interesting and unknown experience. I walked into the HGC and had no idea what to expect when I started L11.
I was going to get a new life. I didn’t know what that meant, but I had to have it.
There were a few times that I went to the examiner and she told me I had a floating tone arm. I would come out of session so totally blown out of my head that I floated around the building. I have been so grateful for the walls in the Oak Cove, without them I know that I would have fallen on the floor several times.
In the middle of all of this I was mocking up my other 2 L’s because at that point there was no way that I could not do them, they flow one right into the other. So I did it, I made it go right and secured the other 2 L’s.
I’m in the middle of L10 right now and I'm becoming a much more powerful being. I see things from a totally theta and exterior viewpoint, and I have realized in the last few days how powerful a thetan can be. I am now able to make things happen in the physical universe with ease.
Right after I finished L11 my D of P asked me how my viewpoint had changed?
I couldn’t even think with that question. Finally I looked at her and realized that my viewpoint was not something that I could see or realize, my viewpoint was everywhere, it was everything, it was limitless, it was mine.
I have my new life from L11. It’s me. Its just me, wholly and completely, without anything standing in my way, so I want to say hello to you for the first time but I know that it wont be the last.
I was a lifetime member of the IAS up until about 4 months ago. Every time I donate to the IAS I feel like I am completely on purpose and on source. Yesterday, I did my Patron Meritorious.
The more I do on The Bridge, the more I realize the purpose. I get it. I really get it.
I do before I have, always. Otherwise, I would never have. I put it there before I knew how to cover it, I put it there because that is the way we are going to clear the planet.
The Sea Org members have opened their arms and their hearts to me. I have never been surrounded by more theta on purpose beings. The biggest win that I have had has been really understanding what all of this is about, it’s about our future, our lives, our reality as thetans to live together, forever. We will make it.
If somebody would have told me that it could be this way seven years ago, I would have never believed it, I had no idea that such a thing existed, it’s bigger than me, it’s exciting and wonderful and it’s life.
Thank you LRH because without you, I know I wouldn’t be here tonight to share my wins with you. To LRH! – J.S.

That is the Church I published it as a member I want the real truth out. I know what it did for me. I am sick of only hearing the disgruntled members side. Scientology only works if your honest. Dishonest beings have forfieted there right to the truth...
"Scientology is a Science of the Mind First"
-There are no scientific studies which validate any claims made by
Scientology or Dianetics.
Dianetics claims it will increase your IQ and provide Clears perfect
recall of memory. Hubbard himself over the years brought forth Clears.
HIS Clears, people he himself had validated as "Clear". One couldn't
even remember the color tie Hubbard was wearing. INVALIDATED. FALSE
SCIENCE.
Scientology claims a Clear does not get sick. Ever. Completely untested,
and many many Clears have gotten sick since they attested to Clear.
Scientology claims many many things, and every single one of them is a
lie. Period, end of statement, nada mas.
THERE IS NO SCIENCE IN SCIENTOLOGY, ALAN.
"Very real Spiritual abilities can be gained. "
Not a single OT or Clear has ever demonstrated a single one of the
abilities they claim to have. Ever. If OT's were truly at cause,
Anonymous simply wouldn't exist. It is that simple.
"well they haven't obviously been to just one of our events."
I've been to multiple Scientology events. The entirety of Anonymous has
been to your Orgs and missions and events, watching them all. Not a
single one of your big events ever has more than a couple thousand.
Where are your 10 million members? Do they not like going to their Orgs?
Do they detest making public appearances? Are they not proud of their
religion and afraid to claim it on government surveys??
According to multiple independent surveys, Scientology is a SHRINKING
religion. Go ahead, google it. THis is DOCUMENTED.
Why are all the stats that are published purely about buildings and
purchases? Why is there never a mention of "X new members" or "X new
Clears certified every month" or "X new OTs every year" or any statistic
dealing with actual members OTHER THAN "We have 10 million members"? And
why has that number remained unchanged for years? Even in your made up
number...there is no growth.
Alan, and yes I know your name because we've corresponded before, you're
no different than any Scientology apologist I've encountered. In the few
months since I debated you in circles, your responses constantly
avoiding the questions I posed or focusing on minute details unimportant
to the conversation at hand, you've done NOTHING.
NOTHING. I, however, have grown, learned, understood more. We make
progress, and you have chased your tail in circles. At the end of it, we
get out the truth and you obfuscate it.
I can not say it enough times, apparently, because you refuse to read,
understand, and comprehed it:
WE DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU BELIEVE, WE CARE ONLY ABOUT YOUR CRIMES.
By the way, if you don't remember who I am...proof yet again that
Dianetics and Scientology are lying to you because you are Clear and
have no perfect recall.
Poor thing.. you sound like those mindless drones that just parrot what their little leader tells them to say.. hey, are you TOMCAT in disguise?? LOL
I am sooo sorry. But I think Xenu left without you. You better send more money.
Scientology is nothing more than a cult farce, that steals money from the gullible. I will pass based on A. the fact that they are insidious, deceptive scams, and B. I dont want to be part of anything that has Tom Cruiz as a member! I have boycotted his movies for years. Crazy much?!!
10 million members, more like ten million schmucks getting shafted and robbed. And the part about "disgruntled members" sheesh, can you not get more creative than that?? LOL. Get your head out of the sand.
I pity you.. I really do. How pathetic.
I found some documented quotes by Hubbard on the net.
Here is one of the saddest.. he is a disgrace.
"Leukaemia is evidently psychosomatic in origin and at least eight cases of leukaemia had been treated successfully by Dianetics after medicine had traditionally given up. The source of leukaemia has been reported to be an engram containing the phrase It turns my blood to water."
- L. Ron Hubbard, "Journal of Scientology," Issue 15-G, 1953
That quote, be it from 1953 or not, spells out this man's complete disregard and lack of compassion for those have endured this horrible disease. Only a total freaking crazy idiot things cancer is psychosomatic. It infuriates me.
