Last Night's Action: Here Come The Islanders!

2008_12_islanderslogo.jpg

  • Islanders 4 Carolina 3 (OT): They blew a 3-0 lead, but they managed to come back and win the game in OT. Kyle Okposo had the game-winner and John Tavares had his first two-goal game. Don’t look now, but the Islanders are 6-3-2 over their last 11.
  • Golden State 121 Knicks 107: It’s pretty simple, if you don’t play defense you won’t win in the NBA. Golden State shot 58% from the field and the Knicks dropped to 1-9.
  • Orlando 88 Nets 72: And as bad as the Knicks are, they still have one more win than the Nets. That’s right, our local basketball teams are a combined 1-18. When does the baseball season start again?

Basketball in this city is a disaster and not worth mentioning other than as a punchline on the Steve Somers show. The Nets are particularly pathetic because Ratner is in limbo ever since his Brooklyn project, which is either dead or has had it's name changed to the more mythological Atlantis Yards, seems more and more in doubt. Ratner should either sell to that Russian character or just sell to anyone else considering that the current progress of the team has degraded to entropy.

Atlantis Yards! Love it. Even if the Nets moved to Brooklyn they will still suck. The team never recovered when they got rid of Dr. J. I have no idea who would pay to go to the Meadowlands to see this abysmal franchise-they must be masochists. The Knicks on the other hand, are simply putrid, but at least the Garden is easy to get to...

This area has always been a huge baseball town.
