Man Jumps Off Bridge In Failed Attempt To Escape Cop

A motorcyclist caught driving with a suspended license at the Bronx-side entrance to the Throgs Neck Bridge decided to jump rather than face arrest yesterday. Rocky Sanchez, 43, has had his license suspended 17 times, and when MTA Bridges and Tunnels Officer Charles Luce pulled him over by the toll plaza, Sanchez wasn't about to go down without a fight. First he sped away from Luce, then abandoned his motorcycle, ran across six lanes of traffic, climbed over the wall and jumped about 30 feet!

And he would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for that meddling Luce. Sanchez landed in shallow water—fortunately for him, the tide was high, or he would have landed on the rocky shoreline—and Luce, a regular John McClane, gave chase. He apprehended Sanchez in the water, and arrested him for driving with a suspended license, obstruction and resisting arrest. Sanchez was then taken to Jacobi Hospital suffering from hypothermia. One cop tells the Post, "[Officer Luce] scaled the wall and dropped about 10 feet into calf-high water. It was very heroic."

man, i hope law & order makes this as exciting as it sounds.

How can someone have his license suspender 17 times? I would think after the 2nd or 3rd time his driving privileges should have been taken away permanently . There's something very wrong with our traffic courts.

In my post above, the word should not have been suspender but suspendered. You know what I mean.

Give that guy a raise. And a 70's action-series soundtrack.

Wacca-chicka-wacca-chicka-wacca-chicka [horns]

"Hope you like the cold water Sanchez, cause the showers at Riker's ain't exactly hot."

[conclusion horns, freeze frame]

Rocky *gigglesnort* you're an idiot.

this story reads like testosterone-fueled cop porn.

Run Rocky, run! Now jump Rocky, jump!

i find 'very heroic' to be an odd description of these events.

throw him his bike to hold onto

"[Rocky Sanchez] abandoned his motorcycle, ran across six lanes of traffic, climbed over the wall and jumped about 30 feet!"

His daughter-in-law says [Sanchez] is on disability.

It doesn't look like he's physically disabled, so I guess his disability must be mental.
