Developer Wants You... In NJ

fauxpaper1109.jpg Another attempt to get New Yorkers across the Hudson! One company is claiming there's a "Mass Exodus to New Jersey Underway" in their new web ad. Headlines on their fake newspaper warn of tax increases in NYC, saying, "Your governor is trying to tell you something: Leave." But where should you go? A Jersey City residential and commercial development, of course — located on the same plot of land that, in the early 1980s, New York City officials described as a "toxic waste dump." [via CityRoom]

Sure, come to NJ where your property tax bill will be twice your mortgage, or your common charges will be 3 times your rent. Sure makes me want to head over the river. Not.

The Camden Public Schools will thank you later. Really.

Actually you're wrong. I just moved to jersey and bought property. Not only am I paying less taxes than I did in NYC but I also get tax credits that I wouldn't get living in NY State or City (just ask you physically and mentally blind gov). And where I moved our schools are some the best in the country, yes our taxes reflect that but they are put to good use. Unlike NYC where u pay taxes for shit schools who inflate test grades at the whim of your rich overlord mayor.

You don't have a clue. New York City is a shit hole. It is for the wealthy, young wealthy wanna-bes, dreamers and the idiots who don't know the difference. THIS CITY, AND EVERY HISTORICALLY CITY BEFORE IT HAS BEEN THIS WAY! Yet there's always somebody fighting for some romantic false past. God bless him. It's what keeps the myth alive I guess.

Are you really trying to argue on the side of actual facts when it comes to the State Of New Jersey? With a bunch of NY'ers?
Good luck with that!
Nothing matters but their profound sense of elitism. You know that.
They seem to need it............like drugs.

thanks for sharing your perspective. I too think the city is a shit hole, and cannot stand paying more taxes for reductions in service. Maybe the Garden State is a good thing? Do you work in NYC? If so, isn't there additional tax on that? Or is that minimal considering what NYers pay in taxes?

i've lived in nj and manhattan. nj was cheaper in many ways as long as i didn't have to commute to nyc every day, otherwise the difference for me was a wash so i moved back to manhattan. yes some taxes (eg, income & sales) are less in nj, but auto insurance, gasoline and car costs are higher because there simply is no mass transit in nj unless you want to go to and from nyc and philly. no one ever tells you that in nj you pay for water, electricity, gas, toilets (a monthly tax per physical toilet in your house) and garbage collection. the number of different taxes is staggering: state, city, town and fire dept. the FD levies their own tax separate from the state and municipal charges), etc. 25-50% of my property taxes went directly to the school system (and i had no kids!) so the charges add up. but the biggest reason for me to move back to NYC was that, after work each day (not just the occasional once or twice a month) if i wanted to do anything other than go to bed the only real choice each night was to go to manhattan. even then i was restricted by NJ Transit's schedules as to when i could return home: if i was in manhattan after 1am i was staying in manhattan till the next morning...

Remember, since having legal sex with cows is one of the chief advantages of living in New Jersey, be sure to check the "pets" policy.

I'd love to know where in nj you lived gawkthis, because if you had lived in Hoboken, jersey city, Montclair or even red bank you didn't need to drive all the time or feel the need to go into manhattan all the time. I'm not going to say that any of these places have more going on than mahattan but there is certainly a lot more than you let on. Perhaps you lived in a really suburban or rural area.

Until there's a free transfer between the Subway and PATH...Mmmm, not so much, not even a little bit.

I hear that Brownsville, Bushwick, East New York and half of The Bronx are packing their bags for New Jersey to enjoy "the wonderful schools and low tax business climate".
