On today's Oprah, the talk show host's interview with the Connecticut chimp mauling victim will be aired. Oprah Winfrey spoke to Charla Nash, whose eyelids, nose, lips and hands were torn off by her friend and employer's 200-pound chimp, at the Cleveland Clinic yesterday; it was Nash's 56th birthday. Winfrey said of their exchange, "I will have to say I've never seen anything quite like what's happened to her, and also never felt a spirit like that that has such resolve to get better and such a sense of resilience. It really made me think that I'll never complain about another thing ever again."
Nash told Winfrey, "I don't ask a whole lot about my injuries. I know that I have my forehead." The Courant reports, "Nash says she no longer has eyes, eats everything through a straw and can't breathe through her nose. But she says she isn't in pain and often goes for walks. Nash also says it feels like 'patches of tape or gauze' are covering her face and she doesn't remember anything from the animal's attack." And she said of Travis the chimp, "I do remember going to feed him a couple of times. He was big and scary. He was huge," but made clear he was her friend/employer's pet not a part of the business, "It was her pet that she wanted for a companion... If she had to rush out or couldn't come home, I fed him."
ABC News has photos of Nash's face—they are apparently extremely graphic—here's a link to the ABC News story, where there's another link to see the actual photos. Winfrey also told Cleveland TV station WEWS-TV, "You know, she's sitting there, this is her birthday, this is her 56th birthday today, and she's worried about whether her daughter is going to choose the appropriate prom dress and worried that she won't be there for that. I have to tell you it's one of those stories about the resilience of the human spirit that makes us all take a different look at our own lives."

HOLY FUCKING MOLY. HER FACE!!! Please stop using wild animals as pets and/or entertainment. Leave them alone.
Note to self: Don't fight with chimps.
An account of the basic chimp mauling: http://people.tribe.net/mike_c/blog/e231d414-e8ed-4669-bda1-5b46144bbfb3
her face is nasty brutal. she has a heart of gold to not be vengeful or angry about it.
Why should she need to act angry of vengeful, if she wins her combined $200 million dollars worth of lawsuits she can wear a mask of gold
what an idiotic post. Yeah, she'll buy diamond rings for the hands she no longer has, wine and dine herself through the straw she now eats meals through, travel and see beautiful new places even though she's stone blind. How much money would you need to be paid to go through what happened to her, and live with it the rest of your life?
She will have many surgeries and will actually look much better in the course of time. There have been cases of war wounds that left their victims with worse injuries and that eventually healed and were repaired to a near semblance of normality. I wish Charla all the best.
Have you been drinking?
There is absolutely no redeeming reason for this to be on TV other than Oprah's own depraved ego.
I disagree with your opinion that Oprah Winfrey's ego is a redeeming reason, but would also point out that it's on TV because millions people will want to watch it.
Millions of people would also tune in to see Oprah have sex with a giraffe, but that doesn't mean it should be on TV.
Maybe this woman wanted to share her story? Maybe she needs some money since she won't be able to do anything for herself ever again? Why does it matter who interviewed her, it would have happened eventually.
the hideousness of that face will haunt my dreams forever.
Keeping a chimpanzee as a pet is not a rewarding experience for the chimp or the people. It is a journey that begins with the separation of the baby from its mother and often ends with the chimp in solitary confinement for over 40 years.

I sincerely hope you don't own any animals whatsoever. And take care to make sure that everywhere you step does not kill ants or roaches or microbes or bacteria. I hope you also never use antibiotics (anti-life). And you probably shouldn't live in a house or wear clothing since both contribute to the death of life somewhere somehow.
What is the point of your nonsense? Are you drunk?
This is for you my friend.
More great science fair projects here
Teehee!
No nonsense at all. The only nonsense is what spews from your keyboard in your sad attempt at trying to destroy over a bajillion years of human's mastery over the rest of the animals on this planet. In our mastery, we have also shown them compassion, a trait none of them have shown us. So keep your twisted sense of animal worship to yourself and let the rest of us humans be humans. We all know you're a FURRY, so please run off to the woods with the rest of the critters.
Anybody else got a 200lb chimpanzee we can give HowBoutDemCowboys?
I would love a 200lb chimp. Please hand him over. I would know better than to allow him to believe himself part of my family and would always have my guard up around him because I know he's a filthy animal. Keep thinking yourself better than me because you have some holier-than-thou douchebag opinion of yourself and for some odd reason believe that worshipping animals will set you free. Same goes to you Felix. You'd sell out your own species and that's just sad.
animals should not be imprisoned as pets. period.
"It really made me think that I'll never complain about another thing ever again."
Does this mean Oprah is cancelling her show?
I question the ethics of saving her life.
Kill yourself.
Um chimp lady (the owner, not Charla) is finally the best reason I've found for bringing back public executions, which I would attend with cabbage. Besides, her chimp was put down so she has no friends anymore anyway, let's get it over with.
Ain't no friggin' way I'm clicking over to her pictures. I already have the video of that Lebanese kid who's head split in half haunting my nightmares. I don't need Faceless Chimp Lady on top of that.
this story is so sad! The monster raised by humans...
An innocent beast in the hands of reckless care and this is the result.
at least her family will be well off. plenty of people die or get mauled on the cheap
Wish her luck recovering from this shit.
Chimp owner should get all medical bills.
Public should let this woman alone; she's already suffered enough without being paraded around by tv hosts.
inoyourider, I agree with what you posted. And to all those making ignorant comments about this woman's looks, well: no one force you to look at her pictures or watch the show. So that just goes to show how morbid humans can be...
Why? Why is this woman on TV? Everyone I know is saddened by the demise of the chimp and its seemingly wretched life and disagree with his status as a pet. I'm sorry this woman was hurt, but she was complicit in the chimp's inappropriate captivity (i.e. not at a proper facility), and now we are celebrating her because she was a victim of the mauling brought about by said captivity.
Keeping this chimp as a pet may not have been a crime, but it was immoral.
Oprah took a bite during commercial break.
You people are so cruel. Don't you understand that Charla Nash might be reading this?
Oh ... wait ...
