Cops: Columbia Prof Punched Woman In "White Privilege" Brawl

LionelMcintyre.jpg Police arrested a Columbia University architecture professor suspected of punching a female colleague in the face in a racially charged bar brawl on Friday. Professor Lionel McIntyre, 59, allegedly struck Camille Davis, a production manager in Columbia's theater department, after arguing with her and another man about "white privilege" in Toast on Broadway and 125th Street.

According to the Post, at around 10:30 pm, McIntyre, who is black, shoved Davis, who is white. When a bar employee tried to separate the two, the architecture professor punched Davis in the face. "The punch was so loud, the kitchen workers in the back heard it over all the noise," bar back Richie Velez, 28, said. "I was on my way over when he punched Camille and she fell on top of me."

When another bar patron, who is white, scolded McIntyre for punching a woman, the professor took a swing at him as well, the tabloid reports. "He knocked the glasses right off my face," said the man, identified by only his first name, Shannon. "The punch came out of nowhere. Mac was talking to us about white privilege and what I was doing about it — apparently I wasn't doing enough."

According to police reports obtained by the Columbia Spectator, Davis suffered "bruising and redness in the right eye.” The Post reports that McIntyre — who once served as co-liaison for an organization called the "People to People Friendship Delegation" — and the victim had argued about race in the past. McIntyre was released without bail at his arraignment last night and told the paper: "It was a very unfortunate event. I didn't mean for it to explode the way it did."

-"He knocked the glasses right off my face," said the man, identified by only his first name, Shannon.
Dude's name is Shannon. That's his first problem.

Oh yea, back to this animal of a man. Way to make a point and sock the woman in the face! You must have been right!

Say that to Shannon Briggs.

I will also tell him that his 'sport' is only followed by redneck idiots that still believe it's real.
Oh, and that he wrestles greased up men for money.
Score one for him. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Oh shoot. Retract.
I based that off google images. Though he was a wrestler.

Nah he's cool. *phew*

The victim is white, so it cannot be a hate crime.

Did you seriously just say that a hate crime cannot be committed against a white person? Wrong.

I think he/she is mocking the fact that whites do not get the same special law (in practicum) that blacks do in this situation.

Beat that white privilege right outta her!

"It was a very unfortunate event. I didn't mean for it to explode the way it did."

My ass you didn't. And you don't hit a woman with a closed fist, but with an open Palm!

How many times must I link to this???

How have I never seen this before? Wow.

What the hell is the vetting process at CU? Do you have to be a racist? A denier of the Holocaust? A hater of religion? A plagiarist? The sort of jackass that hangs nooses around? Columbia University, like this rage-ful moron of a professor, has some serious issues.

those damn white people think they can do whatever they want, shoving & punching women in bars, meanwhile innocent black people get stereotyped as violent & loud.

You're a dipshit.

Anyone who publicly is violent against a woman is going to have something happen to them, unless the witnesses are like you.

If this is NOT an attempt at humor, albeit a poor one, the Person "Mac", Prof. McIntyre,..... "McIntyre, who is black, shoved Davis, who is white" ...so who's doing the stereotyping here bigot?

Ya'll need your sarcasm detectors fixed.

lemme guess, ms. davis lives in Levittown.

Not to nitpick, but Toast is on Broadway between Tiemann Place and LaSalle St.

In the postracial world in which we live, this guy is merely a violent asshole.

In a previous time, he would have been a civil rights hero.

This, indeed, is progress.

"In a previous time, he would have been a civil rights hero."
Bullshit. Civil rights heroes would have tossed this jackass to the curb where he belongs.

typical architect. one minute they're all mike brady, then suddenly and without warning, you've got fuckin' charles bronson on your hands.

Dan Libeskind is fighting at the next UFC event. True story.

If he gets to pummel Frank Gehry, I'll buy a ticket.

It'd be a privilege to punch the shit out of that jerk.

Who cares what color he is. The dude has some anger issues. He's in for it now.

Dumbass argues about white privilege while trying to assert his male privilege

God forbid one of his students doesn't render something incorrectly in drafting class.

You can take the boy out of the ghetto but you can't take the............

Oh wait, this happened IN the ghetto!

Sounds like a hate crime to me. Let's see what he's ultimately charged and convicted of, and whether or not Columbia dismisses him.

Really? Sounds to me like a few regulars at a bar got in an argument about something they're passionate about and it got physical.

You do not punch a woman in the face. Period. You do not attack people physically, because they disagree with your opinion. Period.

I agree, but punching someone isn't a hate crime.

Fire him! If he can't handle a woman's opinionated views then he shouldn't teach.

On the other hand, if he can't handle a man's opiniated views, hey, cook, fuck 'em up Mac!

Blacks in academia are like made men in the mob. In other words: untouchable. Don't expect the university to do anything about this. An article in the CU student paper even states that the woman was pressured not to "make waves" by reporting the incident to police.

criteria is being a stuckup pretentious asshole with radical ideas

#31,
Of course they're untouchable. Academies are unofficially mandated to have a radical, feminist, and person of color on faculty to make themselves feel better about their nagging white liberal guilt and condescension. Meanwhile, these administrations -- specifically at the Ivy's -- are the most racist and bigoted of them all.
(see Richard Levin's ludicrous cover-up over a Korean faculty member: cretin Yalie).

On another note, time for a beer summit redux.

And the only media outlet that will go near this with a ten foot pole will be Fox News and that association alone will be enough for the indoctrinated androids to dismiss its truthfulness entirely and everything will be swept neatly under the rug.

You're right. Why would any real media outlet cover this story? It's not significant in any way except for the Post or Fox to advance an agenda against adademia as part of the right's overall campaign against intellectualism and knowledge. This registers about a 0.8 on the newsworthiness Richter scale.

A black professor cold cocking a white woman over a disagreement on race relations isn't newsworthy? As others have pointed it out, it's only trivial because the race of the aggressor and that of the victim do not match with PC groupthink.

A Google News search of this guy's name is bringing up right now exactly six media outlets running the story, and that includes Gawker, Gothamist and the Columbia Spectator. If this is so newsworthy then somebody should tell the media.

I get it. You like running in circles. You jumped in when I said the media--save Fox News--wouldn't touch this with a ten foot pole. Now you're telling us that the media isn't touching it with a ten foot pole.

"It's not significant in any way except for the Post or Fox to advance an agenda against adademia as part of the right's overall campaign against intellectualism and knowledge."

Men punching out women who disagree with them is representative of "adademia...intellectualism and knowledge"?

What is that, the new "open admissions"?

interesting updates in the Columbia paper.
Very interesting.

Link? All I can find on the Spectator is a whitewashed account of the incident buried in the middle of the "news" section under an article (in a larger font no less) about a student survey over how to use campus space. In other words, the Columbia "paper" seems to be doing its best to downplay this in usual fashion.

Meanwhile, the student-run paper--The Blue and White--and its blog--The Bwog--are completely ignoring the incident.

The Spectator is student-run. Entirely.

the original article had 3 paragraphs, it's like double that now. very interesting.
I'll let you decipher what was added.

Well, if it's the link in the Gothamist posting all I see is what I have already affirmed having read: the woman is being pressured not to "make waves" and, unlike the Post, the Spectator can't seem to get anyone to talk. (Maybe due to a lack of effort?) What am I supposed to decipher here, Jacque?

You don't punch a woman.

And isn't a Columbia professor supposed to have the ability to debate with reason and logic rather than with brute force?

People are not always entirely reasonable when they are acting in their capacity as bar regular rather than that of their chosen profession.

You're really going all out in your capacity as apologist here, aren't you?

No, you're right. I'm sorry. I'm sure the he's spent fifty-nine years planning to assault a white women in a bar. What a terrible man.

I'd like you to close your eyes for a moment and imagine Cammille Davis, punched in the face by Lionel McIntyre. Can you see her? Her beaten, broken face, soaked in her blood -- left to die.

Can you see her? I want you to picture that woman professor and the man that hit her.

Now imagine he's white.

I'm not sure why you keep trying to justify his actions.
I'd bet that in his contract there is a paragraph specifically stating that he represents the university no matter where he goes. he can't put on his bar-fight hat whenever he wants.
He's supposed to be a decent, professional, and reasonable person, especially towards colleagues.
Otherwise the university's decision to keep him on board after an irrational woman-beating session would be heavily questioned.

What is the point of posting this? So people can spam him? The Columbia directory is accessible to the public and anyone with half of a brain could have found this information had they wanted to.

if he doesnt have tenure, Columbia will make him disappear a few months later when the dust settles.

Columbia must be relieved that this didnt happen on campus or they'd be looking at lawsuits every which way.

Luckily he is only an associate professor which means Columbia could cut ties with him as soon as the upcoming winter break. That is, of course, only IF Columbia decides to do the right thing.

Of course, he's approaching retirement age anyway so he may not be as f****d as he deserves to be. At any rate, a Google search on this guy now returns a ton of sites relating to this incident so his career is TOAST. This is now his legacy as far as anyone who ever searches his name is concerned.

they should do it NOW,publically...white or black or even mexican,it dosent matter what color you are,you dont punch a chick, ever for any reason..even if she said you look just like urkel
and 2 as a prof at a school such as COLUMBIA he can't hold a heated debate with resorting to violence?..educated? ahahha

Can....His......ASS.

The clash of entitlements. Some of us know how to handle ours, some don't.

Hey Professor, Sammy Sosa has a rejuvenating skin cream he'd like you to try.

I think we have a winner...

Blacks getting uppity again. I smell a HATE CRIME ALERT. I hope she files a civil lawsuit against him and sues for this obvious hate crime against her (ber being both white and woman, we all know he's a run-of-the-mill misogynist).

Remember the Columbia University noose hoax in 2007?

He punched a woman in the face and was released without bail? So much for his argument on white priviledge... many white males have been either jailed or given a bail amount after being arrested for assault.
