Today, the USS New York, which was partly made from World Trade Center steel, will be officially commissioned as a naval warship today and besides the military flyover, there's also going to be a cannon firing repeatedly: "During the Commissioning of the USS New York at Pier 86 & 88 in Manhattan on 11/7/09 at approx. 11 AM, the Sewell's Point Weapons Detachment will fire a cannon in honor of the senior officials attending the ceremony. You may hear 19 consecutive loud bangs at this time." The ship will be open to visitors tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday.

instead of cutting way back on the super bloated military budget, the corporate military machine that is this country builds another warship. yea ... that's exactly what this country needs - firing a cannon. this is so disrespectful on so many levels. (using 9/11 steel to build a new warship?!) but there's a whole other america ... one that wants schools for our children that are not falling apart, clean water to drink, safety on the roads, sustainable local farming practices, a change in the electoral process and 2 party system, healthcare for everyone, marraige equality, the troops out of afghanistan & iraq now !!
