Just before 10 a.m. a report came over the newswire saying a female in a wheelchair was pinned under a truck. Shortly after a reader sent in these photos from the accident, which occurred on Bleecker and 8th Avenue, showing the truck was a City Parks vehicle. The vicitim was unconscious and transported to St. Vincent's Hospital, and there has been no additional word on her condition.

Update: According to Streetsblog, the "Parks Department sanitation truck struck a 78-year-old woman using a motor-assisted wheelchair in the Eighth Avenue bike lane.. The victim suffered head trauma... The driver was heard repeating that he 'didn't see' the victim, according to Michelle Ernst of the Tri-State Transportation Campaign."

Here we go again. And yet those of us who insist that drivers' recklessness is not a force of nature continue to be mocked.

Rough couple of days to be a pedestrian on NYC streets.

He didn't see her. Hey, if you stayed out of the bike lane like you were supposed to, it wouldn't matter if you saw her or not.

seriously. although, why was SHE in the bike lane?

I regularly have to ride around people in motorized wheelchairs using the bike lane. People, let's try the sidewalk, shall we?

the photo also clearly shows some asshole riding his horse on the sidewalk.typical.

Yeah, he should be in the horselane (horse-path?)!

I think gay marriage is to blame.

maybe he was distracted by the two homos groping in the backseat of the cab in the next lane over.

I blame Bloomberg's attitude and Quinn's slush funds. However I do hope the woman will be okay...

I see people in wheelchairs (actually, more like those motorized 3-wheely-jobs) all the time in the bikelane, or just movin' it down the middle of the street. Rather baffling, although maybe there are problems with some sidewalk access that I as a, thank G-d, fully mobile person doesn't take much notice of. I also see people walking in the bikelane all the time, which is of course dangerous to cyclists as they have to get around them, and of course to themselves.

God's gonna strike you down for taking the O out of his title. Just kidding. God doesn't care either way.

at 78 I think I'll give her a pass for using one of those Rascals. but what was the truck doing in the bike land?
doesn't itzhak perlman use one?

Isn't it nice to know that Medicare paid for this shitstorm?
