Yesterday morning around 5:20 a.m., a woman on her way to work was fatally struck by a driver on Flatbush Avenue at St. Mark's Avenue. The driver, off-duty corrections officer Damon Padmore, was arrested for driving with a suspended license; other charges against him are pending.
According to the Daily News, Padmore, headed to his 7 a.m. shift at Sing Sing prison, "plowed his SUV into Dorothea Wallace as she was walking to Macy's in downtown Brooklyn, where she was a merchandise manager." He said that he didn't see the 38-year-old woman, who later died at Methodist Hospital. Wallace's mother said that her daughter's death was "harder" knowing that Padmore's license had been suspended.
Padmore's mother reportedly said her son lives in Ossining, but spends time in Brooklyn caring for her. She told NY1, "I'm sick and I'm trying not to cry and I'm trying not to get a heart attack. That's why my sister and my neighbors are around me. She could tell you about my son. I could call my neighbor because I don't want nobody to think I'm lying. That is my bright and shining star." She also told the News, "We don't know whose fault it was. I hope they don't make my child look like a villain."

Suspended license? Killed someone with a vehicle? Criminal in my book.
Sorry ma'am, killing someone while driving with a suspended license = villain.
I am absolutely shocked to hear that this criminal was behind the wheel of an SUV. After all, SUV drivers are usually the most cautious and courteous drivers on the road.
Does anyone know why his license was suspended?
"don't make my child look like a villain"
he might really be a nice guy to his mother, sadly lots of people turn into giant a-holes when driving.
the problem is was he reckless and negligent while driving aggressively not how he treats his mother.
suspended license or drinking,
means drivers no longer have valid excuses,
are not covered by insurance, and shouldnt even be moving a car to the other side of the road for street cleaning.
licenses could be suspended for something as simple as not paying your insurance and turning in your plates to the DMV to prove its no longer being street parked or driven uninsured.
theres a Damon K. Padmore listed with CRIMINAL COURT.
4 diffrent tickets all from November 28, 2004
issued by the TRIBORO BRIDGE & TUNNEL AUTH
all with next appearance dates as 04/30/2010.
with no charges or furtherinformation listed?,
and no information is usually a sign of a connected connected defendant (cops etc)getting preferential treatment in the court systemor a total wipe of public records
mapquest puts it at 1 hour 5 minutes,
so 5:20 AM start commuting just from flatbush & st marks gets you to ossining on time for a 7am shift.
google maps puts the same route at 1 hour 40 minutes when starting just from the accident location. making him LATE for work esp with traffic bottlenecks, tolls, etc
its still unknown wether he takes the brooklyn bridge to the FDR & Deegan or takes the BQE to Triboro to Deegan northbound out of the city.
I was thinking someone with some kind of badge before I even got through the headline. WTF? This dude needs his cornhole ripened nice and good in the slammer for a long dime.
when will the city (MAYOR) finally step in and stop all these crazed people with badges from running down residents?
it reminds me of how in feudal japan, it was legal for samaurai to kill peasants. thats what the avg person is in NYC, a peasant.
"when will the city (MAYOR) finally step in and stop all these crazed people with badges from running down residents?"
This one's out of city (MAYOR) jurisdiction. Sing Sing is a state facility; he's a NYS employee.
