A woman was killed by a driver in Prospect Heights this morning around 5 a.m. According to NY1, "Damon Padmore, 38, was driving along Flatbush Avenue at St. Marks Avenue, when he hit a 38-year-old woman who was crossing the street. The woman, who has not yet been identified, was taken to Methodist Hospital, where she was pronounced dead." Padmore is a State Corrections Officer at Sing Sing; he "remained on the scene, but was taken into custody when it was determined he was driving with a suspended license."

All those intersections around there are really dangerous, with streets intersecting Flatbush at odd angles (scalene?). Surprised more people don't get hit.
Yeah it really feels like Frogger in those intersections. And drivers will rush through the red light after it changes to get to the next one 20 yards away, which they must literally see as more important than other people's safety.
And why do they keep doing it? Because they can get away with it. Notice that this guy was taken into custody not because he killed someone, but because he had a suspended license.
Drivers (not all, but way too many) have fucked up priorities.
Ugh. Always a suspende liscence. Always a drunk. When are the drunk driving laws going to get tougher? If someone is caught driving with a suspended liscence and a list of DUIs on their record why not take the liscence away for good? It's like possessing an unregistered fire arm - an death waiting to happen.
you can have a suspended license for things other than drunk driving, you know. like an unpaid parking ticket.
... always an officer
Sad.
Even sadder that if he was a cop, he would've gotten off easily.
HELLO TO ALL. Yes, it is very sad about what happen to the woman, I feel for the Padmore as well. If you all sit and look on what you and everyone else is saying about always a cop or us drivers. Have you stop to think about the sitautions of how it happened. Padmore was not drunk, or may have not even been speeding. It may have just been an accidental fatality. What about the pedestrians always j walking, not paying attention to traffic in each direction? Most think that they always have the right away or can just be very impatient. If you read the siuation of Padmore his mother is very ill, he was not home. He has been tending to her after work. There can be many reasons why someones liscense can get suspended, not always something negative the person has done.(insurance laps unknowingly etc) He had alot on his plate with just his mother being sick. It just so happens he is a Correction Officer for the State We (State Correction Officers) get no brakes with NYPD niether, they look out for there own. At least Padmore was honest enough to stay there until help came, a fucked up person would have just left.
This has changed nothing. Yesterday I saw 4 cars run that red light on Flatbush. And another one which did a violent U turn through the crosswalk after I had started crossing with dogs, coming within inches of hitting one of my charges.
I chased down the car as it was parking to inform them of Tuesday morning's incident and that their driver's behavior was reckless. They were pretty confrontational at first, saying "find somewhere else to walk your dogs," but calmed down after I pointed out Ms. Wallace's roadside memorial. We parted ways with them apologizing and offering "peace" and "one love" remarks; but I wonder if it will change their future behavior.
