Now that Halloween is out of the way, it's time to talk turkey. The annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is just around the corner, and it's getting a new route this year.
As previously mentioned, the route will no longer go down Broadway after Columbus Circle and will instead had down 7th Avenue and then 6th Avenue towards Macy's. One reason is the new pedestrian plazas in Times Square while another is the fact that 6th and 7th Avenues are wider than Broadway.
It still starts at West 77th Street and goes down Central Park West, but at 59th Street, the parade will head east on Central Park South for a block and then turn down 7th Avenue. At West 42nd Street/Times Square, the parade moves east again for a block and then turns down 6th Avenue. At West 34th Street/Herald Square, the parade will turn west and travel along West 34th until 7th Avenue.
The NY Post, which dubs the move an "off-Broadway production, reports that four newly designed balloons — get ready to see makeovers on the Pillsbury Doughboy, Ronald McDonald, Sailor Mickey and Spider-Man. And if you're feeling nostalgic, here are some of the really old balloons.
