Kerik Weighing Plea Bargain for Three Years in Prison

110309kerik.jpg Former NYPD commissioner Bernard Kerik faces a lengthy prison sentence and almost $5 million in fines if convicted on all 16 counts of fraud, conspiracy, and corruption. But sources tell the Daily News he's been offered a plea deal that would get him out of jail in under three years. Kerik is facing three federal trials; the first, set to begin on November 9th, accuses Kerik of letting a mob-controlled contracting firm renovate his apartment for free, while telling city investigators that that same firm had no criminal ties.

Under the proposed deal, the three cases would be consolidated and Kerik would face a possible sentence of 27 to 33 months. Kerik has yet to formally accept the deal. He's currently in jail for leaking sealed information in hopes of generating sympathy before his trial. Yesterday Kerik was discharged from a unit which treats cases of mental illness; late last month he voluntarily checked into the Westchester County Jail's psych unit because he was "depressed" and in a "funk." Being behind bars will do that to ya! The psychiatric director at the unit ultimately decided Kerik is not a threat to himself or others.

Plea bargain? For Bernie Kerik? I thought he wanted a reputation for being tough on criminals?

  • Pete

Everyone should thank Bernie Kerik for all the GOOD he did both before and especially after 9/11.

Not saying what he did is right. He clearly made the wrong choice. But to send this man to prison is an injustice.

Fine him, give him probation and send him HOME.

And what "GOOD" was that, other than lining his own pockets?

Wake me up when Rudy is governor. NEXT!

Kerik is playing hands into the Governor Race for 2012. They will postpone this trial all they want and even offer a lesser sentence of jail for 30ish months instead of 20 years.

Yet in reality Kerik will be acquitted of all charges when it finally makes its way to court.

Its a show trial and nothing more. I support Rudy for 2012. We need to get rid of this Horrible David Patterson who has literally done nothing for us. We need Rudy Guilaini for Governor in 2012.

We look to the Mayoral race and the NJ Governor race. If Chris Christie beats Corzine, then I have no doubt we will be on for Rudy 2012.

  • The Man Bat

If only Rudy could join him behind bars. Kind of makes you wonder what secrets Rudy is keeping.

    WTC 7 anyone?

  • Dead Himmler

Hey thats a great idea. Let's put everyone who you politically disagree with in jail.

  • Bubba

Fucking mobbed up crook. Rudy sure knows how to pick them...
