Woman Killed In Car Crash, Boyfriend Charged With DWI

2009_11_guardrail.jpg A Brooklyn man was charged with criminally negligent homicide and DWI after an early Sunday morning car crash that left his girlfriend dead. Jose Sandoval had been on the Brooklyn-bound side of the Staten Island Expressway when he crashed into the guardrail near the Richmond Avenue exit, and Lucia Negrete was thrown from the car.

Negrete was pronounced dead at the scene; Sandoval's blood alcohol was reportedly 0.239—three times the legal limit. According to the Daily News, "Investigators believe Sandoval was going more than 80 mph when he hit a puddle and skidded into the right guardrail, police said. The car then spun across the highway and collided with the center median, tossing Negrete through a window." The News also explains, "The boozed-up Sandoval weighs 170 pounds, meaning he had drunk the equivalent of 13 beers in the four hours before the crash."

Relatives and friends say that Negrete, a math teacher who gave time to students and her church's youth group, tried to keep "Sandoval on the straight and narrow." A friend added, "It's like two tragedies at the same time. He probably made the wrong decision that he's going to have to pay for."

Lucia, why WHY did you get into the car with that drunk? Who cares if he's your 'boo'.

Probably because she was blind, stinking drunk too. If she were sober and wearing a seat belt she probably would not been thrown from the car.

NYPD is preparing its job offer to Sandoval...

SEAT BELTS!!!

But I guess if you're dumb enough to drive drunk, you're dumb enough to not wear your seatbelt while doing it.

but is competent enough to teach your kids math. Go figure. I feel sorry for those kids future.
