West Village Shooting Started With Fight Outside Restaurant

2009_11_morandi.jpg Aha! After the NYPD had few details about the just-after-midnight Sunday shooting that left four people injured, the Daily News and a reader have some more information. According to the News, "Two groups of men brawled at the doorway of the Morandi restaurant at the corner of Waverly Place and Seventh Ave. just after 1:30 a.m., police said. One of the combatants pulled out a gun and fired wildly into the opposing group, police and terrified witnesses said."

Three of victims had "graze wounds to their legs" while a fourth had an arm wound. And a reader, who "talked to the cops during the scene investigation" that morning commented that police "said they were almost positive it was gang affiliated and that the victims held their bullet wounds and walked themselves to" St. Vincent's Hospital.

The cops really need to help sweep up the trash.

Let the trash sweep itself up. At least that solution is more permanent. Putting these savages in jails does nothing to solve the problem. Let them kill each other

And where might the NYPD be on this evening where the Village was crawling with NYPD? Waverly and Seventh ain't exactly in the boonies on Halloween night.

I bet Keith McNally will 86 them from Morandi's for that, or at least take them off the VIP list.

west village is hard knock.

I read somewhere in the Villager I believe that the altercation began shortly after the check arrived at Morandi's and then escalated outside. It was something about who had and who had not the extra expresso with Sambucca.
