Carriage Horse Licks Car! Woman Outraged!

ladyhorse1009.jpg An unusual complaint about carriage horses was sent in to the NY Times' Metropolitan Diary.

A woman tells of her harrowing parking experience, saying she was about to back in to a spot on Central Park West, across from her apartment building, but "as soon as I put the car in reverse to parallel park, I noticed a horse and buggy. I checked my rearview mirror and couldn’t believe that the horse came as close as possible to my car and started licking it, from the trunk to the back window. The horse’s saliva created a film over my children’s college decals." Not the decals!

She then, of course, got out of her car and screamed at the driver. College decal destruction: Just one more reason to ban the carriage horse industry?

Damn straight I'm a carriage driver, and proud of it! And have you made up your mind whether Mexico is N or S America? LOL I didn't even see the reference to Mexico, I was skimming - because I know not only the driver who said that, but the person he said it TO, who happens to be from Central America. And you know that as well. And actually, it makes not a whit of diff, because our horses have more than many children have either in Mexico OR countries in Central America. How come you morons aren't demonstrating in the streets for the children who HAVE LESS THAN ANIMALS???

Crooked trashy horse abuser. Get a real job instead of exploiting horses and stealing from consumers. Go feed the hungry children instead of abusing horses. Do something worthwhile parasite.

And Felix - that translation you provided about children in Central America is true - our horses DO have more than those children have. Tragically and disgustingly true.

  • felixthecat2

Mexico is in South American not CENTRAL america. it is obvious that you are ignorant and a liar. YOu must be a carriage driver

  • felixthecat2

I meant Mexico is in North America not Central. Also it wasn't my translation but the translation on the youtube video description box.

First of all, the graphic with Mrs. Howell(Lovey!)is hilarious LOL.

Secondly, many of the comments were equally guffaw-inducing LOL

Lastly, poor Felix and his ilk still clinging to absurd canards about the horses having no water - such eejits. The horses have all the water they want/need, being offered it TWICE at the troughs on EVERY ride (one at the entrance of 6th ave, one just inside the park at 60th and 5th) Horses' digestive tracts are delicate and unusual - if they didn't get enough water, they'd be dropping like flies all over the place, faster than an average mammal. Aside from being untrue, to say they don't get water is just plain STOOPID.

I doubt if she was ever a Mister Ed fan.

And at the beginning of this century, horrified drivers whinny and bolt at the fearsome sight of horses.

Spell check here. Did you mean whinny or whiney?

Good point: I may have missed a nasal intonation when I saw her running down the street desperately trying to tap 311 into her Blackberry.

If anyone bothered to read the NYT post, the lady was more peeved that the carriage driver blocked her from backing into the spot than complaining about the horse licking the window.

  • felixthecat2

Poor horses are DOUBLE PARK alongside Tour buses, city buses, delivery trucks etc . This is a shame. End the cruelty and there will less congestion and more parking space.

  • militza

I agree! I used to work around central park and frequently saw them out. surely there must be another way for the drivers to earn a living.

PS-she's lucky she wasn't outside and the horse ate beef-a-rino.
