Yankees In Philly, Boss Says They'll "Win It For The Fans"

The Yankees face off with the Phillies tonight for Game 3 of the World Series. They headed to the city of Brotherly Love by way of a train from Penn Station—while fans cheered them in NY, there were Phillies fans ready to taunt them at the 30th Street Station. One Phanatic said, "This is a blue-collar town. We don't like people like A-Rod; guys like that who are on the covers of magazines. Our players put up the same numbers without all the glamour."

That glamour is why a former ex of Alex Rodriguez is talking to US Weekly, "He was so vain. He had not one, but two painted portraits of himself as a centaur. You know, the half man, half horse figure?" Another source says that the slugger and girlfriend Kate Hudson discuss their bedroom happenings "They love sex!. They talk about it all day. Kate gets graphic talking about his body, even to her parents."

But back to the World Series! The Post has an exclusive interview with George Steinbrenner (the Post and Yankees share powerful PR man Howard Rubenstein), and the Boss said of the Yankees players' desire to win the championship is "a nice sentiment, and I appreciate it. But as far as I’m concerned, we always want to win it for the fans. If we win it, I’ll dedicate it to them. And that’s the main motivation I want for our entire organization."

As for the Yankees' cold bats, Derek Jeter said, "It's pitching, man. I tell you all the time, it's pitching. You're not going to come in here and hit home runs every time. I don't care who you are, it just doesn't happen. Our stadium's been called a hitter's ballpark, too, but there weren't too many hits the first couple of games."

Fun fact: Phillies shortstop Jimmie Rollins apparently thinks Yankee fans at the Yankee Stadium are "tame and civil" relative to the Phillies' "loud and rowdy" atmosphere.

It's only fair that the Yankees win one for the "gipper" considering he probably won't be around next year and Joe Torre and Yogi Berra will.

I was at the game Wednesday night and I would not say that the crowd was "tame and civil", but definitely on the quiet side. A lot of people left early, the stands were at least 1/3 empty in the 8th inning.

Philly ain't NY.

Thank Gawd.

Go Yanks,everyone hates you.

I am a Yankee fan but I gotta agree with the Jimmy Rollins and Charlie Manuel. Yankee fans in this new ballpark just sit there a lot of times when the Yankee pitcher has 2 strikes on a batter. You have to plead with them to get on their feet to cheer or clap. You can also tell by watching on television that the fans suck. Just look at the fans that sit behind home plate at Yankee stadium. They rarely get up to cheer. Granted they are all "corporate types", but if you watch any other team's games those same fans are going crazy (Red Sox, Angels Dodgers are the ones that come to mind).
