Former MTA chairman and current Lieutenant Governor Richard Ravitch declared yesterday that East River tolls will come back to haunt us for eternity! The Daily News reports that he told an NYU graduate school class that "User fees will come back and back, and they will happen." The tolls were part of his solution to solve to the MTA's financial crisis; "the so-called Ravitch plan included tolling the East and Harlem River bridges to avert sky-high fare hikes and Draconian service cuts while paying for critical projects."

Sour grapes?
Former MTA chief? How about current Lt. Governor?
They better not put a toll booth on the bike lane!
What the fuck, you don't put a fucking toll in the middle of a city. Now I gotta pay the cab the toll fare too? Fuck outta here yo.
You're welcome to take the train.
you're welcome to die, hopefully tomorrow and unexpectedly.
sometimes i do take the train, that has nothing to do with my statement you scumbag.
Some anger management needed here.
All this because the schmucks cant control costs nor corruption within the organization. MTA costs rising, fees and tolls rising, taxes rising, utilities rising, food costs rising, rents rising or staying the same over-inflated rates because of the whole local housing bubble garbage that Bloomie helped propogate - all the while unemployment or underemployment also rising providing the common folk here in the city with reduced paychecks or no paychecks at all to fork over to these crooked bast*rds. This city is becoming more unlivable by the day.
"What the fuck, you don't put a fucking toll in the middle of a city."
What, you mean like the toll at the Battery Tunnel, or the toll at the Triboro Bridge, or the toll at the Midtown Tunnel?
The city is about to spend $150 million rehabbing the Manhattan Bridge, which will bring the total to over $800 million spent over the last ~30 years. Millions are going to be spent soon to repair the approaches to the Brooklyn Bridge too. Is it somehow unfair to ask that the people responsible for a large portion of the wear and tear requiring these repairs shoulder some of the cost?
Looks like another nail in the coffin for Paterson and Ravitch in next year's election.
Of course it will because politicians only know how to tax and steal money out of people pockets.
If drivers don't pay directly the rest of us will have to continue to subsidize them. Why can't you all take responsibility instead of suckling at the teat of big government? Oh, wait, that line of reasoning only applies to the poor. I forgot.
Wasn't the Manhattan Bridge "rehab" not more than 4 years ago? Tolls might "help" with the poor financial handling of the MTA budget, but will hurt local business' around the bridge on both sides of the river. Give it a few years andthere will be a bicycle fare.
The MTA already takes money from:
*ConEd bills
*car registrations fees
tolls from
* Robert F. Kennedy Bridge
* Throgs Neck Bridge
* Verrazano-Narrows Bridge
* Bronx-Whitestone Bridge
* Henry Hudson Bridge
* Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge
* Cross Bay Veterans Memorial Bridge
* Brooklyn-Battery Tunnel
* Queens Midtown Tunnel
It takes the money from
*NYC subway rider
*NYC bus rider
*LIRR
*Metro-North
*LI Bus rider
Its obvious the MTA is a fiscal mess. We need to stop throwing good money after bad. Adding more tolls only feeds the mess, and does not offer any help or solutions.
And also add these new taxes:
*Metropolitan Commuter Transportation Mobility Tax
*New tax on NYC taxicab rides
every knucklehead in here speaking in favor or putting tolls on east river approaches is a plant. no fucking way anyone with half a brain thinks the mta really needs more money
Actually, they do need more money. Do they need to learn to spend it more efficiently? Absolutely.
But sticking your head in the sand and thinking that the money needed to make our transit system world-class will magically appear is delusional.
"Gridlock" Sam Schwartz congestion pricing plan is looking like the only one that could get enough support to pass.
it will never happen.
