East River State Park Gets Juicy Donation

Last year around this time we got word that the East River State Park in Williamsburg would be shutting down for the winter months to save up some money. This year shows less signs of a stalled waterfront park, as the Daily News reports that a playground is being constructed and will open in Spring.

A rep tells the paper, "It's going to be a green, innovative playground" featuring slides, swings, hills, a wooden locomotive and much more, all situated amongst a grove of trees.

The park has been flourishing little by little, but is still strapped for cash. The playground is being made possible by a $60,000 donation from the Nestle Corporation (more specifically, from Juicy Juice). The buzzkills at the NY Post points out that the juice is partially responsible "for the childhood obesity epidemic because the consumption of juice tends to supplant eating healthier foods." Maybe they should have donated some treadmills for a kiddie gym.

atleast it's 100% juice, i mean wtf. i hate rotten little scumbags that drink juice that's not 100%, it makes no sense.

Agreed. Natural juice can be good for kids, unlike carbonated sugar water that has zero nutritional value.

WTF is juice? I want me some grape DRINK.

Be sure to enjoy that grape drink with a government-approved menthol cigarette!

Kiddie gym? Playground? Same thing, no?
Please Gothamist, think before you post.....

How much energy do you exert by having someone pushing you on a swing, sliding down a slide, or riding on a locomotive ?

How many kids have people pushing them on a swing? Most I know like to propel themselves, seeing how far they can swing up. As for a playground slide, you have to climb up a ladder in order to slide down. I don't remember any article saying there might be an escalator. The locomotive won't go around the park. It's just a stationary playset for kids to climb all over. Skepticism is fine, but unfounded cynicism can be quite revealing of a person's character.

any bets on how many Juicy Juice vending machines will now be available in the park?
