NY1's Dominic Carter Accused Of Assaulting Wife; UPDATE: Carter Denies Charges With Wife Present

2009_10_carterd.jpg According to the NY Post, NY1 senior political reporter and host of "Inside City Hall" Dominic Carter is due in Rockland County Family Court, because his wife had repeatedly accused him of "punching, choking and kicking her in their suburban home... Cops were called to the Carters' Rockland County house four times in the last two years for domestic disputes, police records show."

The Post details a few of the incidents, saying the "most violent" one "occurred Oct. 22, 2008," in which Marilyn Carter "told cops, Dominic twice punched her in the face, 'causing a swollen bottom lip,' and grabbed her around her throat, "causing scratches and minor bleeding from behind her left ear...Dominic also repeatedly punched her in the right upper arm and 'kicked her in her lower right shin, causing a small cut with minor bleeding,' the records said."

NY1's general manager Steve Paulus told the paper, "This is a domestic matter involving one of our employees and it's our policy not to comment," but the Post points out, "Hours after The Post's inquiries, Carter was noticeably absent from his seat hosting 'Inside City Hall' last night."

Two years ago, Carter wrote a memoir, No Momma's Boy, detailing the physical and sexual abuse he endured under his schizophrenic mother, who also tried to strangle him as an infant.

Update: The Daily News caught up with Carter before he headed into court—and his wife was there too. He said, "I would never strike my wife. Domestic violence is no joke and I don't take it lightly," while adding it was a "misunderstanding" and "There are certain things that I can't say because it's personal and private and I don't want to destroy my wife's character." Marilyn Carter said, "My husband's character is being assassinated. We are headed to the courthouse in order to clear these charges up."

Doesn't Dom know the first ruleo f reporting? Saying "no comment" is tantamount to "I'm guilty" in the public mind.

If the Carters are serious about beating the rap, they need to learn from Monserrate- agree to every interview, keep denying the charges, and always have the wife by your side. Also, ask the judge for a non-jury trial.

As for NY1, if they need a balding, tubby anchor, see Bob Hardt.

Can't wait for his interview with Monserrate.

  • ANGRYGOD11

When the cops go to your house 4 times in 2 years checking out domestic violence complaints, don't whine it's personal and private, you idiot.

  • schadenfreudian mensch

Why do I have a feeling that this won't be on John Schiumo's "The Call" lineup tonight.

  • Gwinny

I like Schiumo, but that show is terrible. I can't stand the droning monotone of his "sidekick."

  • Global Wombat

As funny as it is to see people ride on NY1 as being "hurrr worst news show" (nevermind that it's an entire channel!) I still hope Carter gets thrown off the air.

Perhaps then they'll stop giving Al Sharpton the podium, and for once the show won't devolve into racial bitching and whining.

  • tom9d

Look at that jolly face. How could a man with a jolly face like that beat his wife? IT DOESN'T ADD UP, PEOPLE!

  • JacqueMehoff

what? maybe she didn't know who lady gaga is?

  • potsmoker

so why didnt the wife learn that its not ok to mouth off to the dom.

  • Gwinny

Let's not forget that there's a correlation between those who are victims of abuse and those who become abusers themselves. I'm not excusing his behavior at all, but it is very sad that the pattern is repeating itself.

  • felixthecat2

yep and there is a pattern of animal abusers who also abuse their partners and/or children. Which is why I advocate human education to break the cycle of violence.

  • whitecastlerock

Yes everyone deserves a human education

  • Dead Himmler

Yeah but my wife and girlfriend actually deserve it sometimes.

  • felixthecat2

I thouht your wife left you?

  • Dead Himmler

Like most people in abusive relationships she keeps coming back. When I first saw that statistic I implemented it into my strategy to keep her around. But I don't physically abuse her. I just emotionally abuse her so it's OK.

  • valeriob

He was perfect for NY1. Dumbed down news with a dumbed down wife-beater, for dumbed down new yorkers.

  • zodak

at least he didn't sit on her.

  • NannyState

    Did you see her picture?

  • evbo

    best. comment. ever.

  • eyekantspel

Too bad. A lot of couples fight, and no doubt many arguments turn physical. It's not always the man, or just the man, who escalates things, although the man almost always gets blamed.
