NY1's Dominic Carter Accused Of Assaulting Wife; UPDATE: Carter Denies Charges With Wife Present

2009_10_carterd.jpg According to the NY Post, NY1 senior political reporter and host of "Inside City Hall" Dominic Carter is due in Rockland County Family Court, because his wife had repeatedly accused him of "punching, choking and kicking her in their suburban home... Cops were called to the Carters' Rockland County house four times in the last two years for domestic disputes, police records show."

The Post details a few of the incidents, saying the "most violent" one "occurred Oct. 22, 2008," in which Marilyn Carter "told cops, Dominic twice punched her in the face, 'causing a swollen bottom lip,' and grabbed her around her throat, "causing scratches and minor bleeding from behind her left ear...Dominic also repeatedly punched her in the right upper arm and 'kicked her in her lower right shin, causing a small cut with minor bleeding,' the records said."

NY1's general manager Steve Paulus told the paper, "This is a domestic matter involving one of our employees and it's our policy not to comment," but the Post points out, "Hours after The Post's inquiries, Carter was noticeably absent from his seat hosting 'Inside City Hall' last night."

Two years ago, Carter wrote a memoir, No Momma's Boy, detailing the physical and sexual abuse he endured under his schizophrenic mother, who also tried to strangle him as an infant.

Update: The Daily News caught up with Carter before he headed into court—and his wife was there too. He said, "I would never strike my wife. Domestic violence is no joke and I don't take it lightly," while adding it was a "misunderstanding" and "There are certain things that I can't say because it's personal and private and I don't want to destroy my wife's character." Marilyn Carter said, "My husband's character is being assassinated. We are headed to the courthouse in order to clear these charges up."

Does this mean he'll finally be off the air? I hope so.

OMG I HATE NY1 worst news show ever

sometimes i think they are tryin to be the worst news on tv

They're really good a reading the newspaper to you.
/rollseyes

ahem, it's *road to* city hall during election season.

unfortunate, but there's gotta be a better NYC political commentator available out there. carter's ridiculous interview/debate questions have always been boring and worthless.

I'm not surprised! Hope we don't have to watch him anymore. I used to be a fan, but I CAN NOT support a man who beats on his wife! He should seek some therapy and anger management. This man has issues!

Perhaps we'll see Dominic Carter cleaning trash along a highway, like Chris Brown.

He's a jerk for beating her but it has nothing to do with the job he does. The guy working at the supermarket or the guy that changes my oil probably beats his wife too... do I care?....not really unless I'm personally involved. Obviously he's got mental probs just like most of the losers on this planet.

Well, if you're having sex with your mom you would have some sort of mental issues to work out. Just a guess.

Dude. You should only slap your wife with an open hand, not beat her senseless.

Just like what Sean Connery says

"Barbra Walters interviews Sean Connery on smackin' bitches"

i think barbara was a little turned on by his dripping, old school machismo.

I wouldn't doubt it. The shock and dismay on her face was a front. She was definitely overcome by the vapors

Never hit a woman, just shake a bitch.

Dominic Carter's questions are weak but last night on "Inside City Hall" Michael Scotto was too rude to Thompson.. I didn't care much for Scotto either.

i saw that interview felix.
there was something almost sadistic and psychotic about
the way he was interviewing thompson, but thompson was very cool about it. i actually like scotto - he's very sharp. i wonder though if he would do the same with bloomberg though?

Scotto is sharp as you stated but I felt he was somewhat biased. for instance, he asked Thompson, " you gave Bloomberg a D- after all his achievements"? What achievements?? What I did like about the interview was he forced Thompson to be detailed on his plans if he was Mayor. Thompson came across cool and smart.

(there was something almost sadistic and psychotic about
the way he was interviewing thompson) Yep, you can see it in his eyes, Scotto looked manic.

i actually thought this was going to make sense until "what achievements??"

you got me, ftc2.

Miss Kitty, Can you list some of his achievements? You never state any facts just make LITTE snide remarks.

Michael Bloomberg v. the People of New York City: The Spin v. The Facts

Read the above link and understand.

is that what you call your misreadings of whatever articles you throw up here? which in any given case vaguely relate to your asinine points to begin with?

i don't see why i would need to "state facts" to question your predictable and ridiculous reactions to basically everything tagged "mayor" this site.

i think there's a disconnect, here. i don't have a problem with you being anti-bloomberg/pro-thompson, and i would not characterize myself as the opposite by any means. most of the time, i just enjoy calling you out on your junior high reading comprehension level/understanding of politics.

by the way i'm in love with you.

that's a damn shame. Dominic was a obamaesque black guy too so it's surprising. It's not like he was DMX.

So, beacuse he tries not to speak in ebonics that makes him "obama-esque". Gimme a break. This cat is showing his true colors.

yes that is the definition of obamaesque. black guy who speaks like he went to college.

Aw, man...say it ain't so Dominic. You were my black Kiernan.

Is Dominic Carter going to have to choke a bitch?

He's better off choking the chicken. I'm sure there's more pleasure in that and you won't have to worry about cops coming over.

user-pic

that's great.

"Damn Pat Kiernan, i didn't know you like to get wet."

Too bad. A lot of couples fight, and no doubt many arguments turn physical. It's not always the man, or just the man, who escalates things, although the man almost always gets blamed.

at least he didn't sit on her.

He was perfect for NY1. Dumbed down news with a dumbed down wife-beater, for dumbed down new yorkers.

Let's not forget that there's a correlation between those who are victims of abuse and those who become abusers themselves. I'm not excusing his behavior at all, but it is very sad that the pattern is repeating itself.

yep and there is a pattern of animal abusers who also abuse their partners and/or children. Which is why I advocate human education to break the cycle of violence.

Yeah but my wife and girlfriend actually deserve it sometimes.

Like most people in abusive relationships she keeps coming back. When I first saw that statistic I implemented it into my strategy to keep her around. But I don't physically abuse her. I just emotionally abuse her so it's OK.

Yes everyone deserves a human education

so why didnt the wife learn that its not ok to mouth off to the dom.

what? maybe she didn't know who lady gaga is?

Look at that jolly face. How could a man with a jolly face like that beat his wife? IT DOESN'T ADD UP, PEOPLE!

As funny as it is to see people ride on NY1 as being "hurrr worst news show" (nevermind that it's an entire channel!) I still hope Carter gets thrown off the air.

Perhaps then they'll stop giving Al Sharpton the podium, and for once the show won't devolve into racial bitching and whining.

Why do I have a feeling that this won't be on John Schiumo's "The Call" lineup tonight.

I like Schiumo, but that show is terrible. I can't stand the droning monotone of his "sidekick."

When the cops go to your house 4 times in 2 years checking out domestic violence complaints, don't whine it's personal and private, you idiot.

Can't wait for his interview with Monserrate.

Doesn't Dom know the first ruleo f reporting? Saying "no comment" is tantamount to "I'm guilty" in the public mind.

If the Carters are serious about beating the rap, they need to learn from Monserrate- agree to every interview, keep denying the charges, and always have the wife by your side. Also, ask the judge for a non-jury trial.

As for NY1, if they need a balding, tubby anchor, see Bob Hardt.
