Monserrate May Be Dumped By Queens Dem Party

2009_03_monserrate.jpg Things are not looking good for State Senator Hiram Monserrate. The NY Times reports that the Queens Democratic party is "expected to dump" him, after his misdemeanor conviction for reckless assaulting his girlfriend: "It is extremely rare for a party to seek to unseat one of its own incumbents, even those dogged by scandal."

The Times adds that Queens Democratic Party head Joseph "Crowley’s move against Mr. Monserrate — the political equivalent of an excommunication — reflects the growing frustration among many Democratic officials with Mr. Monserrate, who has rebuffed calls that he resign." Crowley explained, "I’ve had enough. And it’s not just me. I think the community has had enough."

José Peralta, an Assemblyman, is looking to challenge Monserrate for the seat. He said, "I get calls in my office from people who are angry that he is representing us. You need someone who is focused on the district and not focused on legal issues or soap opera issues." Yes—just yesterday in the soap opera, Monserrate's girlfriend asked the judge to drop the restraining order that prevents the two of them from being together.

Espada buys votes with his pork.

Escada will probably be re- elected. His constituency is as ignorant as he is corrupt.

If the Dems had any balls, they would lead a recall petition. Excommunication isn't enough. Cast him into the coldest pit of hell to have his eyes clawed by demons.

Now if only the party would train its sights on Espada.

Let the voters decide to vote him out. The Queens Machine is rotten to the core, I can only imagine who they plan to replace him with. Let the voters decide.
