Fines For Idling Cars Heading To $250

2009_10_idlecars.jpg As previously discussed, the City Council voted to raise the fine for idling cars from $5 to $250. The move was prompted by two horrible fatal accidents: "In Chinatown, two children were killed when an unattended idling van rolled backwards. And in Queens, a car left unattended and idling was stolen by an intoxicated person who ran down and killed two high school students."

Anybody stopped at a red light will be fair game for a ticket, wait and see.

...raise the fine for leaving a vehicle unattended with a key in the ignition.
Not too many people stop at red lights in this manner.

You expected ides_of_march to have a reasoned objection to anything?

And anyone who is behaving in that manner at a red light definitely deserves a ticket!

Motorists do some pretty stupid things every day. If tickets aren't doing a good job of convincing you to either follow the rules or start taking mass transit, then I am all for raising those fees. The ones in NY and the country are pretty weaksauce, anyway.

If only NYPD could be bothered to ticket drivers for all the stupid things they do every day...
