"Carnival of Destruction" at JPMorgan Chase

A network of earth-loving organizations (Waterkeeper Alliance, Rainforest Action Network, Sierra Club, and Friends of the Earth) descended upon 270 Park Avenue early this morning with a bevy of costumed demonstrators.

Their "Carnival of Destruction" was aimed at JPMorgan Chase, and conducted in protest of the investment bank’s financing of coal companies. The group tells us: “JPMorgan Chase invests hundreds of millions of dollars in the coal industry every year — bankrolling some of the biggest players in mountaintop removal coal mining. The destruction they finance must be stopped, and people everywhere need to know that clean coal is nothing but a dirty lie.”

JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon claims the company is dedicated to the promotion of clean energy — but his critics say they hope today's event will serve as a wake-up call.

My Xbox 360 runs on the power of love.

Although the KozKids showed up early for the Halloween/14th Street festivities, these earth zombies should get a job! First Global Warming a la Mr. Gore. Now it's Climate Change.
The Waxman-Markey and Kerry-Boxer bills, like the proposed regulations, are an expensive and ineffective response to the overstated threat of global warming.

Viva nuclear power baby!

Don't they know that putting coal under pressure only makes more Dimons.

You are F'in clever.

Do I close my Chase account in protest, or do I say "I can't make a difference"?

We should invest in ways to make Coal cleaner, which we do, but Coal is not going away, especially since 50% of our energy or more comes from Coal. (And the US just happens to be the Saudi Arabia of Coal. We're not going to let a 250-300 year Coal supply go to waste.)

We should also invest (both our minds and $$) much more heavily in energy efficiency. What's really sad is that the consequences of our kiss-my-ass carbon-heavy lifestyle will be borne not by the dinosaurs commenting on this blog but others in the future. "Aprez moi le deluge"

Listen to the Hurricane Creekkeeper's speech if you're skeptical of these atrocities. It's incredibly powerful! http://bit.ly/45YNrg. Clean coal is a dirty lie and I don't want my money funding it!

If you have a Chase account, call them (212-270-6000) and tell them to stop using your deposit dollars to fund mountaintop removal! Our future depends on moving away from coal and moving towards truly safe and renewable sources of energy.

@kojak -- i'm pretty sure i've heard coal industry lobbyists say the exact same thing... go figure...
