New Jersey Still Wants You to Want Them

Did that New Jersey storefront on the Upper West Side get you across the Hudson to check out some foliage? The NY Times reports from the state's temporary Manhattan outpost (which is still up and running), saying that it's not about competition or stealing Manhattanites away (was that really ever a fear?).

Brian Thompson, 22-year-old ambassador at the store, has been bragging, however. He says New Jersey has things that Manhattan can't offer; "things like birding, wildlife trails, lighthouses, places for canoeing and kayaking and Jenkinson’s Aquarium on the Point Pleasant Beach Boardwalk, which is not far from the Shark River in Belmar, where Captain Kidd’s treasure is rumored to be buried." Oh, Brian, don't you know that people won't even go to Jersey to get laid?

There was some New York support, however. One 14-year-old girl told the paper: "I love shopping for clothes in New Jersey."

Isn't the Statue of Liberty a lighthouse?

No it is a welcoming erection for their wretched refuse and huddled masses.

Anybody who actually wastes time and energy in saying "New Jersey sucks!" or "New York sucks!" or "The Phillies suck!" or "The Yankees suck!" or "Boston sucks!" is a fucking idiot.

"New Jersey has thing that Manhattan can't offer"

What? An entire state has things that don't exist in one small part of a particular city? Amazing!

""New Jersey has thing that Manhattan can't offer"
What?"

Pig farms.

Besides the shopping quote, the funniest/saddest thing in the article was how the teen girls went to the store because they wondered why Christopher Columbus was outside. It was actually a George Washington impersonator.

I have to admit I do like the Palisades, but unfortunately don't have the time to go anymore.

Do you mean the Palisades Mall? That's in NY not NJ.

Unfortunately New Jersey also has some incredibly rude, trashy people with no sense of how to get along with other humans. They come into Manhattan with their sh*tty attitude and throw themselves around like they're in an 80s Eddie Murphy movie. If NJ could do something about these dweebs perhaps more people would visit there?

I just wanted to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening.

growing up in jersey was fun and likewise character building.

Actually - I wouldn't call it a fear, but the #1 state for NY ex-pats is NJ. They go for more space and the school systems

The most expensive zip code in the tri-state is in NJ.
