MTA: A Bunch of "Doody-Heads" in Ivory Towers

2009_10_walderdh.jpg New MTA Chairman Jay Walder was given a true New York welcome at his first transit authority board meeting today, when he and fellow board members were referred to as "a bunch of doody-heads" by a frustrated union leader.

According to the Daily News, Andreeva Pinder, an official with Transport Workers Local 100, was complaining about staff cuts at subway stations and the lack of contracts when he said, "I think you people are so detached from reality because you don't use the system...You guys are just a bunch of doody-heads."

The budget cuts being argued at the meeting were approved before Walder became chairman, for what it's worth. Walder should take some comfort that he's not from "Silly-delphia".

Seriously? A first-grade level insult is the best criticism the TWU has to offer? No wonder they get no sympathy from the public.

Maybe you should change your screen name to "the public". I guess I'm one of the rare non-union members who supports unions and understands that they can help workers at non union companies by raising standards in certain industries.

And what makes you so sure that this is their best criticism? I once heard a couple MTA workers griping about "stupidvisors," but I didn't assume that was the pinnacle of their reasoning.

Oh, and I biked all over Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens during the strike. It was cold. I didn't blame TWU.

I'm not surprised. Transit workers are among the rudest, snottiest people I've ever had to deal with. I also get a kick out of seeing a dozen track workers in a station late at night, maybe two of them are actually doing anything that looks like work.

He used to refer to them as, "pooh-pooh brains" but for clarity, recently made the leap to "doody head.," as opposed to the more common, "doody bomb".

I was in favor of the previous strike (mostly because it delayed finals in law school), but... if the TWU gets the 11% raises they're up in arms about now, I would like an 11% raise as well.

And... the slowdowns - it's getting annoying!

Oh, I see. You were in favor of the strike because it provided you a direct and immediate benefit. And you would be in favor of a raise if it gave you another direct and immediate benefit. You are truly a modern hero.

I actually think this was a well-placed insult.
