If It's Almost Halloween, Then Dogs Must Wear Costumes

While the humans get the big Halloween Parade in Greenwich Village on October 31, canines have a series of Halloween Parades to participate in. This past weekend, there dogs were decked out in elaborate costumes in both Carl Schurz Park on the Upper East Side and Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. Take a look at these awesome costumes—our favorite is the Hulk Dog, if only because she endured getting dyed green! Update: We learned that Hulk Dog is an Olde English Bulldogge named Fanny—she got 2nd place for her costume.

And this Saturday, it's the 11th Annual Great Pupkin in Fort Greene Park.

Okay Haters...I am the owner the that thriller dog pictured above who by the way won both his category and best in show. He loves doing these things and has won several contests in the Past and made the papers and has been published and is scheduled for yet another book. I design his outfits and his parade floats and I take every consideration of his safety, his health and his comfort. He actually stayed in his very comfortable and flexible costume for three hours without trying to take it off or the uv protective sun glasses which he likes wearing. He is the inspiraton and if he showed any discomfort what so ever I would stop doing these contests. Anyone who knows him can atest to what I have written. This is all in fun. We love our pets and if you have ever been to these events you would see how spoiled these dogs are wiith treats and how they play around with each other. Yes there are a very few select stage parents who may be too demanding but no pooch gets hurt.

dressing up your kids is one thing. dressing up your dog? might as well dress up your furniture, or your houseplants. except that it's actually cruel to the dog, so you'd be better off with the houseplants. at least kids can refuse.

To some people, pets are the only 'children' they will ever have. I agree that they are only animals and not humans, but they're still fun to dress up.
