Terrible Craigslist Ad From Star Wars Nerd

2009_10_chewy.jpg We thought that using Craigslist to find someone to harass one's married lover's wife was bad, but Topless Robot offers up this NYC Craigslist ad. TR does warn with its headline that "The Most Awful Nerd in America Found," and that sensitive souls might be disturbed by it—plus "I don't think I'll ever be clean" again after reading it:

"Need an amputee to complete my Halloween costume (Brooklyn)"

So this might seem strange and really offensive to some but hopefully someone will reply. I have always loved the scene in Empire Strikes Back where Chewbacca has to carry around a half reconstructed C3PO in a backpack because he hasn't reattached his lower body yet. For Halloween I would love to dress up like this. I am big enough and strong enough to both pull off the Chewbacca look and to carry around a lot of weight for the night. So basically I am looking for a double amputee (someone missing both legs - preferably at the hip) to accompany me as C3PO for the evening. We should meet ahead of time so that we can work out the backpack/harness system. There are a few parties that I want to hit and I think we will be the hit of any event we attend. Anyone up for this?

The ad was flagged for removal. Those slutty Halloween costumes for little girls almost don't so bad anymore.

Sheesh, of course it's a joke. An attempt to get some reaction just like the ebay auctions of someone's parents or whatever that the newspapers and TV sometimes bother to report.

This guy has to be disappointed that didn't happen, his prank only got mentioned in a couple of blogs.

  • WorksInDUMBO

Assuming for a moment that it is not fake, I don't understand what is so offensive about it.

  • Tower18

Totally fake, have you read Craigslist ever before?

Now if you know that it's fake, it's actually quite funny. I bet you could do this with a person with legs if you designed the Chewbacca suit right so that the person's legs went inside the Chewbacca suit.

  • braaain

Agreed! I was thinking the same thing about the legs, but where would you put the arms?

  • zodak

brilliant idea for a costume it is.

  • Mr. Shankly

    Witty, you are.

  • tom9d

...oooooooor, this is a (brilliant) fake ad, and people are just very gullible.

  • militza

yeah, I hope it's fake too. if this guy is serious then HE should have both HIS legs amputated!

  • I don't know, I'm not so aghast. This is like movies casting little people to play ewoks or hobbits, or one-armed stuntment getting their prosthetic ripped off for special effects. Obviously on a smaller scale, but I don't know-- this is a geek looking for another geek who shares his interest. I'm not offended? Then again, I'm not an amputee at all.

    **mouth agape**

OK, which of these two scenarios seems most likely?

    1. A huge guy wants to carry around a fully-ground person all night, and thinks it's likely that someone would like to do that for him -- a total stranger -- for no compensation other than the possibility of being "the hit of any event" they go to?

    2. A scrawny guy thought of a tasteless joke that he could anonymously post on a popular website, so he could sit back and laugh at the reaction?

He'd really need an amputee midget, anyway, unless he's totally a giant of Chewbacca proportions. It wouldn't work if their torsos were the same length.

  • CR

If dude can promise to get the amputee laid I might know just the guy for him...
