Ladybugs Attack NJ, Staten Island

2009_10_ladybug.jpg Even though it's been warm these past few days, swarms of ladybugs have been spotted in NJ and Staten Island, apparently in search of warmth! The Advance reports that SI extermintator Richard Pascone "received at least 30 from anxious customers this week, including one at midnight from a homeowner willing to pay any price 'if you come right now.'" Pascone explained, "They’re trying to get in for the winter. They’re trying to hit the warmest side of the house, finding the first crack or crevice to survive for next year. They’re outside bugs trying to survive like everybody else." Things to know: Ladybugs are predators (and eat pests) and don't damage structures.

    Hail the Ladybug!

Inconvenient little thing but necessary for nature!

    Close the door stupid!

After we get rid of all the bugs, we go next.

These are the same people who don't like trees because of all the leaves that fall off, but don't sweat the litter that people create. DON'T LITTER!!!

Leave the trees and the bugs to a Higher Authority.

I don't get it. People were sending Richard Pascone ladybugs? Why would they do that?

"Things to know: Ladybugs are predators (and eat pests) and don't damage structures."

That may be true, but I don't know many people who like seeing thousands (that's not hyperbole) of those little things crawling around their house/apartment.

  • felixthecat2

They are harmless, why freak out. People are stupid.

Please send all ladybugs and other insects to felix's place so that he can cuddle up with them.

  • felixthecat2

Idiot, why would I cuddle with them? Just let them be. So immature. Not even kids respond as you do.

saw hundreds outside my window screen on the wall outside and flying in the air, im a few stories up and near prospect park. many of them were yellow.

not sure why people freak out, have they never seen a ladybug or realize that its a good sign? theres a reason why the myth about ladybugs bringing good luck but its based on having a more rural agricultural history, which we lack in an urban environment.

Jen Chung has more editing to do.

Seems like most of the NY area is stricken by this, not just the provincial, small minded, ready made jokes of SI & NJ.

    Jen Chung fail.....................

    PS I am in Brookln

  • sowhtifithppnsitwll

This is strange, I usually have hundreds of ladybugs hatching on my sand roses.

    This year I did not.

    Usual? climate change?

    So cute.

    So badass.

  • henryhamilton

    They bite.

  • Big Al72

Yeah, they're in the Bronx also. They've been swarming my apartment which is near Van Cortlandt park. Apparently if a few get in, it's ok, but you don't want too many because they can attract more by giving off pheromones (sic?) and draw thousands more to your place.

Ladybugs eat predators and don't damage structures.

Correction: Ladybugs are predators. They eat pests.

  • ckl

Little known fact: if you saute them gently in butter they look & taste great on cupcakes.

  • ckl

Oh they're in Manhattan too, there are like a billion on the side of my work building.
