Arrest Made In Killing Of 92-Year-Old Bronx Woman

2009_10_sadiem2.jpg The police announced that an 18-year-old was arrested in connection to the death of a 92-year-old woman in her Bronx home. Sadie Mitchell was apparently struck by a stray bullet on Tuesday evening, when a shot was fired during a fight between two groups of youths. Witnesses told cops that Jamal Blair, 18, was the shooter and he allegedly confessed. A source tells the Daily News, "He told cops he thought he was shooting up in the air. The lady was 15 feet [above ground] in her home when the bullet hit."

A Post source states, "He was standing there as though the ruckus was bugging him, and he figured firing a shot would stop the fighting." Blair also allegedly "expressed remorse" over Mitchell's death. Mitchell had been getting ready to watch TV and the bullet went through her room window, hitting her in the hip and then traveling to her lungs. Though she managed to call a friend, Mitchell died at the hospital.

According to Police Commissioner Ray Kelly, the two rival gangs had fought earlier in the day and the evening altercation was motivated by revenge, "This is a horrible tragedy. One homicide is one too many. There are way too many guns in the hands of young people." Mitchell was a beloved figure in the neighborhood, having settled on the Williamsbridge Street in 1954, and her death provoked the outrage of her family and friends.

It is horrible what happened to this poor woman and her family. Breaks my heart.

But I never understand why anyone shoots into the air, don't the bullets eventually come back down.

And Im sure he and the rest of the worthless criminals in the gangs were always such good kids too.

Good STUDENTS to you.

Can't they play video games with one another instead of shoot guns in the air to bring peace? These kids are going nowhere, they might as well sell the guns, buy a bong and a PS3 and leave society alone for the rest of their worthless lives.

There is so much things to do. Watch TV, go hiking, take photos, go online, watch movies, play video games, get a job, go railfanning etc.

Fry the lil turd before he shoots someone "intentionally."

All gang members regardless of their origin, should be rounded up, packed into trains and shipped off to concentration camps where they are separated from their bling and gold teeth with the money going to their victims, then gassed, cremated and their ashes dumped into a sewage pond. Sorry to be so kindhearted and liberal about it.

Glad they found the little prick that did this. Hope they throw the book at him.

Why don't they just stick him in the chair she sat in and have someone shoot him? That would alleviate his guilt.

Poor lady. The world needs more people like her and less of his kind of trash.

for 20 odd years now people having been making money and fame off of glorifing the gangsta mentality. Personally I think its great entertainment, but its also probably effected a generation of kids to become criminals.
