Video: Astoria Grocery Store Sets Stage for Musical

The latest Improv Everywhere mission brought the troupe to the Best Yet grocery store in Astoria, Queens to end fruit segregation... in musical form!

Of course, a grocery store musical doesn't just happen, like, say, improv... there were late night rehearsals, hidden robotic cameras, choreography, and a well-honed team of professionals making sure all went smoothly. They report back that, "It was fun to see [customer's] reactions as they entered and were immediately confronted by our ridiculousness. We got so many wonderful reactions from everyone in the store throughout the afternoon. Queens is the most diverse county in the entire world, and it was really wonderful seeing all of the different types of people laugh and smile."

    Lame.

That isnt even improv. That group is now totally useless.

Oh my gawd, you can't even go to the shop to buy mayonnaise without people squishing fruit right in front of you.

I know. I hate fun and laughter. What is wrong with me. WHY CAN'T I JUST BE HAPPY?

    Cute.

  • This store is super close to my apartment, and I must say, the produce section is practically begging for hijinks.

Wow, They finally realized there is more to NYC than Manhattan and Brooklyn and actually did something in Queens!!

No shame in making people smile. This wasn't really funny but still pleasant to watch for a few seconds..

Improv Everywhere does practically no improv, but that's okay: this was excellent.

  • dwayno

    hahaha!! truth!

  • jazlow

It would be better if it was funny.

  • schizofriendly

This is the most good-natured and worthy thing the troupe has done so far.

  • Clarice City

My thoughts exactly. This was really cute and good natured. Also liked that the people in the grocery store were so appciative and captive as an audience.

But why does Gothamist post so many stories about IE? Is there a covert advertising scheme going on here?
