Obama Calls Thompson A Friend In Shout-Out

2009_10_thompso21.jpg President Barack Obama did in fact mention Democratic candidate for mayor, City Comptroller Bill Thompson, during last night's Democratic fundraiser: "Our great city comptroller, our candidate for mayor, my friend Billy Thompson is in the house." And that was it. Even Thompson himself, when asked if he thought it was an endorsement, said, "No. Do you consider that an endorsement?" (See for yourself—video is below.)

Still, Thompson's campaign was happy to take it, later issuing Thompson's "official" response soon after:

I am excited and proud to receive the endorsement of the President. To have the President of United States get involved in a New York City Mayoral race and endorse me, illustrates that he believes I will win and that I can lead this city.
A few weeks ago, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs made the President's endorsement of Thompson official with "The president is the leader of the Democratic Party and, as that, would support the Democratic nominee."

  • GOP

Me too. What house were they in?

  • felixthecat2

of course you are white and OLD and Bitter. I noted that the old white ones are on Bloomberg's team. But for those that aren't in that category, Bloomberg has oppressed our liberties and has privatized our city for his friends and families.

  • Detweiler

They were in your house. Didn't you hear them shouting?

Seriously though, if calling someone "friend" was an endorsement John McCain would have endorsed the entire world by now.

  • felixthecat2

Obama is so disappointing, is this all he can do???? Thanks for nothing.

  • GOP

Because Obama, as socialist as he may be, is a practical fellow. And he understands that Bloomberg is the right man for the job.

  • felixthecat2

HE never said Bloomberg is the right man, he doesn't want to set off the vindictive billionaire Bloomberg who is BUYING THIS ELECTION. Another story on how he mismanaged this city. Upgrade emergency system is 2 years later and over 700 million over budget. All the corruption in the Bldg dept and all the failed overdevelopment sites in HARLEM.
