Vatican Makes A Play For Anglicans

2009_10_stpeters.jpg Pope Benedict makes his move for British domination: The NY Times reports, " In an extraordinary bid to lure traditionalist Anglicans en masse, the Vatican on Tuesday announced that it would make it easier for Anglicans who are uncomfortable with their church’s acceptance of women priests and openly gay bishops to join the Roman Catholic Church... If entire parishes or even dioceses leave the Church of England for the Catholic church, it will probably set off battles over ownership of church buildings and land." Anglicans could maintain a distinct identity under an "Apostolic Constitution."

If Anglicans go Catholic, it'll just be for the anonymous sex.

Well they already have child-molesters, they may as well take the bigots too. Next summer's big Catholic recruitment drive is designed to appeal to priests who like to kick babies and those who think Bin Laden is a great guy, all under the headline "Who would Jesus hate?"

I wonder if there will be a huge exodus of Catholics rushing to join the Anglicans, after they realize who the Pope just let in.

When Henry the 8th founded the Anglican church, it was basically a rogue Catholic archbishopric that refused to recognize the Pope's power.

It turned into a compromise church that rebelled against Rome, but unlike the Lutherans, it kept many of its Catholic rituals and traditions.

Over the centuries, the Anglicans gradually moved to the left by accepting women clergy and gays.

Maybe they should spend some effort keeping local schools open and retaining the Catholics they have...
