Monroe, NY Teen Arrested For Columbine-Style Plot

2009_10_monny.jpg A 15-year-old teen in Monroe, NY (in Orange County, about 60 miles away) was arrested for "allegedly plotting to carry out a Columbine-style attack at Monroe Woodbury High School" on the anniversary of Columbine next year. MyFoxNY reports the teen said he was bullied and had "a lot of hatred" for his classmates. Also: "Officers searched the teen's home Monday night and found four 16-ounce bottles of gasoline, items that could be used as fuses, a torch, a machete, a black trench coat, three propane tanks, two computers and several other electronic devices, authorities said." The teen was committed to a psychiatric facility.

My Kids go here and while MW says it has a zero tolerance policy I see little proof of it. My oldest was bullied by a kid on the bus, more then once. It was not little threats, but instead him saying he was going to kill her. He was left on the bus after repeated reports.

Awww, my little podunk hometown made Gothamist.

What they fail to mention in the article is that allegedly this kid was pulled out of the actual high school after his freshman year and attends MW and at a satellite location.

Also funny about this is that, at least during my years at MW, they shoved their anti-bullying agenda down our throats. See how well that worked, administrators?

Monroe is about 45-50 miles from New York City not even close to 60.

  • Yes, I used the Google Maps approximation for a driving distance.

Ah lower Manhattan I was using more Mid-town or Upper Manhattan.

No, 60 is about right. Maybe 45-50 "as the crow flies," but 60 taking roadways into consideration. My dad does that (unfortunate) commute every day.

According to Google Maps Monroe is a 61.3 mile drive from lower Manhattan.

listen you wise ass fuck, 50 miles is very close to 60 miles, and perhaps on the other side of the town it's 60 miles. shut your little wise ass spoiled mouth and don't worry about it.

Now, now, Pansy, act like a lady.

That's my old high school. Well, back when I went it was located in the normal-sized building and not the 4-story resort hotel/state hospital-looking facility it's in now.

Bullied kids have to start thinking of smart ways to ruin bully's lives, instead of just blowing up everyone in the school. How about hiring Adam Baldwin? Hacking the school computer and changing the bully's grades to all F's? Holding a dance in a barn against John Lithgow's wishes? Or any other 80's movie devices?

That's my old HS, too -- well, what's now the middle school. I graduated in '98.

And society has to try and deschool itself (of high school mostly) because it isn't working anymore. Columbine and other incidents like it show the reasons why we should, but this book shows how society should even better:

How about just killing the bully instead of dozens of kids who are innocent. :)
