Hide Your Wives: The Milkman Returns

milkman21009.jpg The milkman cometh! The nostalgic middle-of-the-night milk delivery service, complete with glass bottles, has returned to New York. The Daily News tagged along with the two milkmen, Matt Marone and Frank Acosta, who started their business a couple of years ago, and now deliver to around 50 households in Manhattan. They're also expanding to Brownstone Brooklyn next month—where surely the two good looking gents will quickly become a hot topic amongst Park Slope mom gossip circles.

They told the paper, "Our friends ask us, do housewives hit on us?" and mentioned that "People were making an effort to meet us at the door" when the service first started... but they promise there's no hanky panky with customers. So people are really just paying $4.99 a quart for milk? Well, it seems nostalgia is the strong selling point here; Marone says,"People have a connection with the milkman. They want to stop us and tell us about the glass bottles and how they miss that."

its just not fair, milkmen get all the hot ass these days...

Not as much as the seltzer man.

expect to see signs of stolen milk. we had milk deliveries in the mid sixties in manhattan. if they're working on the connection with the milkman nostalgia, good for them.
we just had a brown shopping bag with milk, no biggie.
just more stuff white people like. (I'm pretty sure this was in it)

We had a milkman when I was growing up in Queens.. in the 80s and 90s. If our milk wasn't stolen, I'm sure today's milkman customers will survive. ;-)

This is totally unfair. Why not a daily deliveryman that delivers six packs of beer? There are a lot of games going on every day and the viewer needs a lot more nourishment than a quart of milk.

If you're willing to pay that mark-up for a six pack of beer a day, I'll deliver it to you. A regular quart of milk costs about 79 cents, let's say it's a dollar. So at 4.99 a quart, that's a pretty good margin.

I regular six pack times five...like I said, I'll deliver it to you. And it will be cold.

These guys will spread more seed than ADM and Monsanto combined.

GMO? I knew there was something sinister about this!

I could see a hunky organic milk + eggs and other organic goods (CSA) delivery doing well in the suburbs. Hope they can capitalize on that!

I wonder if they can pick up where Kozmo failed.

They'd be hotter if they wore uniforms.
