In Borough Park yesterday, it was Giuliani Time! Former mayor Rudy Giuliani campaigned on behalf of Mayor Bloomberg and struck an ominous note at the Jewish Community Council breakfast, "I worry daily that the city might be turned back to the way it was, to the way it was before 1993. And you know exactly what I’m talking about."
Of course they did! Given that Giuliani also said, "This city could very easily be taken back in a very different direction — it could very easily be taken back to the way it was with the wrong political leadership," the Post reports that Public Advocate candidate Bill de Blasio—a former David Dinkins staffer— said Rudy's words were "'veiled race baiting' for suggesting a black mayor wouldn't be tough on crime." de Blasio said, "If Giuliani is using an openly divisive tactic, Bloomberg has to disavow it." Here's video from PolitickerNY (there's also City Councilman Simcha Felder talking about being mugged for five cents):
Mayoral challenger Comptroller Bill Thompson's campaign told the NY Times, "This is a tired Republican campaign tactic — scare people into voting by threatening their personal safety. It didn’t work for Rudy Giuliani during his abysmal presidential bid, and it’s not going to work for Mike Bloomberg this year. Bill Thompson is committed to public safety, not manipulating people and inciting unnecessary public fear."

New York before 1993, I remember it clearly: Reagan and Bush the First had decimated New York with bad economic policy and crack. In 1993, Clinton came into office, established the COPS program which put hundreds more police on the street and turned around the economy, giving New York one of it's best decades.
Oh, and there was this vile little Mussolini kinda guy who tore down the Thompkins Square Park Band shell. What was his name? Piccolo Duce??
Before Reagan & Bush was that Democrat, peanut farmer who got attacked by a swimming rabbit, Carter, and things were terrible in NYC during his term.
ANOTHER FUN FACT media kept secret:
when CRACK crime exploded in NYC and the USA in the 1980s, the number three man in Reagan's Justice Dept was solely in charge of stopping it.
His name?
Rudolph Giuliani.
No one disputes that he completely failed. They just don't talk about it in hopes the taxpayers never find out the truth.
B/c Rudy---like Tax Hike Mike---gave tens of millions to each and every media outlet in return for glowing raves.
I've only lived in NYC since 1990, but I've seen crime only get WORSE since then.
From white collar crime (what, that doesn't count?) to etching acid graffiti crime (Rudy and Mike call this "broken windows"!) to the NYPOST (!) cover story last year about record numbers of NYPD being arrested (and we arrested over 7 cops in 2009 just for raping men and women!) (that's a safe town, right?). Hey, did "identity theft" decrease or increase since 1994? Or does that also not count as crime?
FIRE TAX HIKE MIKE this november 3rd. The media are all scared of the naked emperor.
Does Bloomberg really need Giuliani to campaign for him? I would think that would do more harm than good. Besides, Bloomberg has his own record to stand on these days.
Why does Bill Thompson always refer to himself in the third person?
it was towards the end of the dinkins admin when you saw real change. More cops, more developments, safer streets.
in the fours years I've worked in E. Harlem I saw 2 luxury high rises go up. same with Hell's Kitchen when Worldwide Plaza was built.
MrManhattan must be remembering some other city. While Clinton may have signed the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 into law it was Mayor Giuliani who decided how to actually use this funds. As for the economic picture of 1993 I think it would be far more accurate to put the blame on David Dinkins. Thanks to him 300,000 private sector jobs were lost during his administration which had the effect of further eroding the city’s tax base. As for hose funding for more police officers helped improve the economy that's a rather tenuous connection at best. Either way, the most recent political mistake has seen fit to cut New York from receiving any additional grants from Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS) under the joke of a stimulus bill one could potentially argue that a black politician has already done significant damage to our ability to fight crime. Unfortunately I don't think Guiliani's comments were in any way meant to be taken as a commentary on the ability of a black politician so much as they were to be taken as a commentary on the ability of Bill Thompson to be tough on crime. I'm always surprised by the speed with which a Democrat will inject racism into a discussion. Must be due to the long standing relationship the Democrats have had with racism vis a vie their support of slavery from the early 1800's on and their outright refusal to embrace Civil Rights in the 1960's. I mean, it was Democrats Strom Thurmon and Robery Byrd who filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act for a combined 38 hours.
here's also City Councilman Simcha Felder talking about being mugged for five cents" Simcha Felder has stole MILLIONS OF MILLIONS OF Dollars from Taxpayers. Bloomberg without any paper trail has toss money to this slimy Felder who has stole so much mony already.
we were treated to stories of how the billionaire Mayor had authorized hundreds of thousands of dollars from his private slush fund to community groups, without Councilmanic authorization, which he then tried to fake after the fact. Simcha Felder, whose district was the beneficiary of the funds in question, couldn’t even bring himself to back up the Mayor’s lies that he had requested the money. So is Mayor Bloomberg much different from Miguel Martinez, who also submitted “non-contemporaneous” receipts in an effort to disguise the misdirection of funds
So does that mean the city will be cool again?
MORE LIES by Team Bloombag criminals.
FACT: Both Giuliani and Bloomberg's "crime successes" were courtesy of DINKINS: Giuliani's "star police commish" Bill Bratton was a... DINKINS' leftover! Bloombag's "star police commish" Ray Kerik, er, Kelly is... DINKIN's former Police Commish! Anyone want to disprove this?
(See any pattern yet?)
FACT: Dinkins (who I hated; he was the black Giuliani and the Black Bloomberg, but still far more honest than these two convicted criminals) CREATED THE SAFE CITY SAFE STREETS tax that put thousands of more cops on the street.
FACT: the NYPD has NO EFFECT on crime rates. (Even criminologists concede this.) EX: for 16 YEARS now, the largest concentration of police on earth has been in Bushwick, Bed Stuy, East NY, etc.
THE RESULT, according the nypd themselves, is SOME OF THE HIGHEST CRIME RATES IN THE USA.
GAME OVER.
Will you people EVER learn to stop trusting politicians and media?
I'll gladly debate ANY fraud who defends either Rudy or Tax Hike Mike, but not one of them is willing to back up their rhetoric. (Hmm.)
Tax Hike Mike needs a reality check this Nov. 3rd. Come to my website http://nycisnot4sale.com/Home_Page.html and see what Mike has really been up to.
I gotta admit, the photo ops were better after '93.
And what about the radios, Rudy? Let's talk about the radios!
To all of the people who think of Rudy as some kind of hero, remember this: Rudy bought 2-way radios for the NYC Firefighters that were about 10 years outdated. They did not work inside of buildings. (Now, think about New York City for a moment. Buildings, right? Right. To the firefighters, radios that don't let them talk with one another inside buildings are useless.) They did not let the Firefighters and Police talk with one another. Police and Firefighters NEED to communicate, during fires and especially during emergencies. The Firefighters did not want them, and said so. The firefighter brass did not want them, and said so. Rudy knew best, of course, and gave the no-bid contract (in violation of city and state laws) to a campaign donor and bought the radios. The ones that the Firefighters and Police did not want. The ones that did not work properly. The ones with outdated technology and big price tags. On Sept. 11, the Firefighters inside the World Trade Center buildings had only these useless radios. They could not communicate with one another inside the buildings, and they could not communicate with the Police. Those inside could not hear their commanders telling them to get out because the buildings were going to collapse. They died carrying those expensive, worthless radios that Rudy bought from a campaign contributor. Blood money. Blood money. Who knows how many brave men and women died on that day because RUDY'S RADIOS DID NOT WORK?!?!?! I would say that their brave blood is on his hands, but I have too much respect for them, and too much contempt for Rudy.
So, Rudy... tell us about the radios, won't you? Tell us all about the radios.
