A Staten Island man died early Sunday morning while trying to back his SUV out of a tight parking space in a pub parking lot. Oleg Kantarovich had gone outside to pull the car around for his wife, who was celebrating her 30th birthday, so that she wouldn't get caught in the rain. Police say he was leaning out of the front door of his 2007 Audi SUV as he backed up because it may have been difficult to see through the tinted side window.
"Instead of hitting the brake, he hit the accelerator," a source tells the Staten Island Advance. The car lurched and spun into a tree, ejecting Kantarovich and hitting a fence. The source says, "The body was suspended between the car and the fence." Kantarovich suffered massive internal injuries and died instantly. Sadly, his wife found her husband twenty minutes later when she came looking for him. It's not known if Kantarovich, who had been drinking, was drunk, but according to the Daily News, he had two convictions for drunken driving.

that's horrible.
perfect balance between tragic and dumb as shit.
i feel so badly for the wife! poor lady.
even if he wasn't drunk this time, as a former drunk driver, he deserved to die.
congratulations, you're an ass.
thank you
Not REALLY an ass, he just said what our gut tells us.
IF the multiple DWIs are true, I can only imagine that the guy is going to get lit on his wife's 30th B-day. Perhaps he was going to continue driving that night and take out a family in a head-on collision. Who knows.
Thank you. Who hangs out of their car door while it is running anyway?! One less drunk driver on the road.
and how many of you vindictive trolls support the death penalty?
we are speaking about a real human life, even behind your electronic veneer of anonymity, you should still be able to respect that someone died. if you can't, at the very least you can STFU about it.
I am all for the death penalty if it applies; but we are commenting about one drunk individual who had driven after drinking in the past so I guess he really did not care about himself or others when he got behind the wheel of his SUV, maybe, if he did, he may be alive today. And if you want to meet me I will be in Bryant Park & tell you to your face:)
You're all missing the main point here - One Less SUV.
I'm going out on a limb here and say it was driver error.
along with being drunk.
+1
Let's be clear about something. He wasn't killed by his SUV. He was killed because he drove himself into a fence.
So sad, but let's be clear when we write headlines.
Deep sympathy for his wife, family and friends. Tragic accident on of all days, her birthday.
If he had a regular vehicle and not some over stuff SUV, maybe he would have seen through the back window.
SUVs should be BANNED in cities.
I hate SUVs as much as everyone else, but a foggy window is a foggy window. The vehicle being an SUV doesn't have anything to do with it.
I'm dying to see a photo of this
