School Nurse On The Frontlines

2009_10_schoolnurse.jpg The NY Times spent the day with Nasim Akhtar, the school nurse at PS 70 in Long Island City. Not only is she dealing with fallout from schoolyard fights, monitoring health issues (obesity, swine flu), she also needs to work with different cultures, "With Christians, I am Christian. With Jews, I am Jewish. With Muslims, I am Muslim. With Arabic, I am Arabic. I have to serve all."
