Yankees On Tenor's Anti-Semitic "Joke"

2009_10_rtynan.jpg An update about the fallout from Irish tenor Ronan Tynan's anti-Semitic "joke"—his hope that a potential buyer in his apartment building wasn't Jewish. Well, the potential buyer, NYU Medical Center pediatirian Dr. Gabrielle Gold-von Simson, apparently emailed the Yankees about his remarks, and a Yankees spokeswoman told the Post, "[Tynan] admitted that the contents of the e-mail were true. He said it was a bad joke. So we told him that was absolutely intolerable behavior and he needed to apologize." In spite of Tynan's apology (which Gold-von Simson accepted), the Yankees decided to nix his 7th inning stretch singing of "God Bless, America" for the rest of the playoffs.

I never realized that "Irish Tenor" translated as "bad froggy-voiced singer". I suppose that classically trained folks who suck need jobs too.

This is stupid and has gotten way out of hand. Simson's a freaking baby. Guys makes a offensive joke and you contact his employer? I don't get it. If he was on the job maybe, but seriously...

i agree that this is stupid, but it's fucking awesome that something finally put an end to that incredibly out of place god bless america bullshit, atleast temporarily.

I hope you don't mean until the next attack.

@thewildpansy:

This was not the end to God Bless America; they just found another singer to perform it.

You can still get arrested for leaving your seat to pee during its performance. And we still have to put up with that racist song "Cotton-Eyed Joe" which was originally an old-timey song about a freed slave with cataracts.

I'm a Yankee fan as much as anyone, but Steinbrenner et fils need to realize that you don't have to stand at attention during GBA to be a patriot.

The song is fine. Th8e singer is not. I'm happy he's gone although I do not agree with the reason.

Did you hear the one about the one-legged leprechaun and the rabbi's wife?

With Tynan out of the stadium, The Yankees suddenly have room for 300 more fans.

the ironic thing is that irving berlin wrote the song... an immigrant jew, as a tribute to his adopted land.
